Just got myself a new domino 500 this week. The paddles were out which I've fixed by changing the left one for the slightly thinner paddles that were in a packet in the systainer. I also had to calibrate the clear plastic gauge as this was out by about .5mm. All pretty simple especially after watching Paul Marcel's video.

My question is are the dominos supposed to be calibrated in the factory ? I did notice saw dust on the cutter when I unpacked it so guessing it was tested.

It's spot on now ;D I'm just curious .

Every Domino is factory calibrated. I don't know to what tolerances. I don't the process used but I suppose it's possible that human error could be introduced resulting in less-than-optimal results out of the box.

That would explain the saw dust then ?

I know .5mm doesn't sound much but that obviously doubles when you put the joint together meaning a joint is 1mm or more out of alignment. As I say all is fine now , I'm just curious as to what these tools go through before they leave the factory.

I didn't see the process when I visited the factory, but if I remember correctly, they actually mark the wood used for calibration with the serial number of the tool and archive it somewhere. I suppose for quality control.
