New dust ports and connectors

I strongly feel this is a huge problem and as a user with allergies, it is something very dear to my heart.
The biggest selling point and primary reason I got into Festool and now own so many of the tools is because of the good dust collection and how it allowed me to work with more ease of mind as I didn't have to suffer my allergies so much.
These new dust ports and connectors have seriously downgraded the experience with just about every tool.

As I understand it the new locking dust port/dust hose was introduced mainly because there were people who had their hose falling off their saws and sanders. I personally never had this happen to me.

What I do have happen to me all the time now, is that I have a lot more dust.
We now have €500+ vacuums attached to very expensive tools that are supposed to have great dust collection, and each and every time I want to connect a tool I
a) have to line up the hose with the dust port on the tool so that the arrow line up
b) the rubber connector is so darn stiff. I find it's a lot more cumbersome now to just switch out the plug-it cord and connect your vacuum hose to another tool.
c) when I want to switch tools, each and every time, with each and every tool, when I disconnect my hose there is residual dust falling out of the port/connector.

I find this to simply be unacceptable, as these problems didn't exist before!

Another example, about 50% of the time the entire plastic dust port breaks off my HK85 & HK55 saws. I understand the design is to attach the dust bag like on the cordless saws, but it's to fragile. It's not strong enough.
The enitre port just keeps on breaking off the saws, like 50% of the time I use my saws. Maybe you had some users who didn't attach their hose all the way or had a worn rubber connector that caused a hose to slip off the tool. Now you have dust ports breaking off the tools entirely, making a huge mess and causing dangerous work situations ALL THE TIME!

Again, I never had any of thse problems before, in fact, I loved the great dust collection my Festool tools offered me. Now however, I have more dust than ever before! What use is the dust collection on these saws to me, if the dust ports break off tools half of the time I use them on site?

So nothing has been fixed, in fact, both the user experience and the dust collection have gotten worse on all your tools!

So my suggestion, in fact I'm almost begging, please keep offering us the old dust ports and connectors, they are way way superior both in user experience and dust free working.

I really wish we could make this into a poll so we can have everybody chime in on this and have our voices heard by Festool.
I'm certain I'm not alone in this.
So if you feel the same way, please chime in, so that hopefuly someone over at corprate notices!

I just saw this video from Sedge. I mean seriously, doesn't this video speak volumes in and of itself?

Festool used to be synonymous with quality tools that offer great dust collection, now with this "upgrade" we get more dust than ever before...
You're losing me Festool.

Well you’re certainly not alone on this one.  [eek]

The Kapex issues are probably the hottest hot button on this forum while this issue is probably hot button #2. Unfortunately it’s not going away any time soon. I stopped over at the local Woodcraft store recently and noticed that the latest D500 & D700 now have this new connection along with the Rotex 125.  [mad]

Here’s a photo I snapped of the ports on my ETS EC 125 & Pro 5...nice. By the way, the residual on the Pro 5 was what was left after the majority of the dust had already fallen on the floor and countertop...really nice.

About the best we can do is to notify [member=57769]TylerC[/member] that you’re another disgruntled customer. A poll could produce some interesting findings.  [smile]

I have not used the new connector yet but I’m not looking forward to it. Keeping in mind I don’t have any experience it does seem like if you could remember to keep the tool running before you pulled the hose off the dust on the port might get sucked up instead of falling.

This is what I was thinking too. And with the new remote you could activate your vac without the tool running.
Not trying to be a devil's advocate, but just saying.

For the poll, as far as Jonathan's grievances go, that's a +1 from me. Festool fixed a minor problem and introduced a bigger one. An absolute downgrade.

Luckily I don't have any tools with the new port yet, and I snagged up a couple of older hoze nozzles before they became unavailable, but I already dread the day they'll wear out.

Totally impractical.

- And I really wish that when Festool introduces something new they don't IMMEDIATELY phase out the previous version. Give us a choice, please. Some of your "upgrades" are just crap. How do you field test this, and who actually gives you feedback during the development phase?

Sorry guys it doesn’t work like that.  [mad]

These are your choices:
1. While the sander is running, and thus the vac is running, grasp the sander and slowly try to remove the hose a little at a time while also twisting the hose around the port to suck up as much dust as possible. Try not to hit any objects while the sander is running. Shut the sander off and remove it from the hose.

2. Shut the sander off, walk over to the vac and switch it to manual. Walk back to the sander and complete the task as outlined in option 1 above. Walk back to the vac and switch it to automatic. Walk back to the sander and remove it from the hose.

As the Checkered Demon would say...nice.

What if you’re using a MINI or MIDI?
Don't worry, in 2020 Festool will roll out a new accessory - HCTDSA-SYS (hose connector trapped dust sucking attachment in Systainer) for $199.

So glad all my Festool tools have the old dust port connection! I bought them all before they started rolling out the new connector. I tried the new connector on the Pro 5 when I had one and didnt like it right off the bat. Really cant believe they messed that one up so bad.

+1

I was going to buy the DTS400 last week before the price increase. Decided to wait for a used one on Craigslist with the old port. I'm not going to buy any more tools with this port. Either it's fixed or I'm done.

[big grin] Yeah, but it’ll probably be NAINA for the first couple of years.

I wonder if Sedge has shown this video to Festool management. It takes real skill to F up some thing as simple as two tubes sliding on each other. The designer should be forced to watch this video repeatedly as penance for being such a F wit.

The new connection has now started to creep into my tool stable, with one vac and a couple of tools.  I also hate it by comparison! That mini dust shower every time i disconnect is a joke!

Wow. Only just saw the video posted above with Sedge. .  Ha ha ha ha ha!  Tricks on how to make the new easy connection actually easy to connect  [tongue] too stupid.

I agree as others have posted that the old push/pull simple connections were way way better. I only ever had the hose pull off the TS a few times when I was going fast and the hose caught an edge, my sanders, jigsaws, router have never had the issue. . And the solution to the hose tugging lies in the new hose they just released, not this PIA connector that is a def' step back in usability and function. .

Another vote for someone who hates the new connectors.  [mad]
I highly doubt that Festool cares or that they will do anything about it.
