New ETS EC 150/3 sander shut off issues

I'm new to FOG but a long time user of Festool products. I have 2 Rotex 6" sanders and 1 Rotex 5" sander. I recently purchased the new brushless ETS EC 150/3 to just do final finish sanding. Out of the box we used it with 150 grit and normal sanding. Within 10 minutes it began to shut off while using it, It would immediately start up after switching off and back on. Contacted the on line retailer and they sent out a new one. Within 10 minutes the sander is having the same problems only now it takes about one or two minutes before it will come back on.
Any body else having issues with this new sander under normal use?

Welcome to the FOG.  Sorry your first post has to be a tool problem one.

No, haven't had an issue like this with my EC 150/5.  The one thing I have noticed, though, is that the electronics on the motor will sometimes slow the machine down when it senses it's off-edge of the board, and even when I put the pad fully back on, it can take a second for the motor to readjust.

Just to cover all the bases which you've probably already thought of: You sure the cord connection is secure, both to the tool and to the CT?  The outlet on my CT is pretty loose, and in the past the plug would come free pretty easily -- I ended up just adding a dedicated short extension cord to put between the tool and the CT that stays firmly in place.

Thanks for replying Edward. The cord was my first thought, checked it many times, even plugged directly into the wall on another circuit from the vacuum, same problem with both sanders.
I'm not familiar with the off-edge sensing but it sounds like that could be a problem I would not be pleased with, we sand a lot of panels, stairs, stair nosing, and table top edging. I can't imagine how that would work well under any sanding conditions.

Call Festool Service. They are excellent at getting this kind of problem fixed. There number is on the tool.

Tried Festool service and the online retailer. They have no idea other than similar suggestions regarding the cord. I can't imagine the same issue with two sanders.

Actually, the speed modulation is a good feature as it assists in keeping the pad stable while half of it is off the panel.  The normal functioning of the machine does not have it slow down as dramatically as I described in my examples.  There have just been a couple of cases of this happening with my sander -- otherwise the modulation is pretty subtle, but you can definitely notice the difference in terms of sander stability.

This could be an issue with the hose detection.  I would suggest turning the hose detection off and then back on to see if that helps. If that doesn't fix it, contact our service department. 1-888-337-8600

Even as I was writing "shut it off and turn it back on", I thought, "Well, this advice sounds bogus."

If that doesn't work, just jiggle the handle.
