New Festool Products

I don't know if I'd put my money on that bet.  [smile]  While the LED light fits nicely inside the micro, Festool is trying to monetize the LM OF-1010 R in the US by only packaging it with the entire OF 1010 REBQ-Plus-LM package. That will probably change within a couple of years.

Oh, right, that's disappointing

You're absolutely right ...that is disappointing. I wax and wane on Festool gear, it's engineered well but the marketing team sure does try to extract a pound of flesh on everything that's released. Maximizing your profit margin is a business standard throughout the world, and I get that, but sometimes Festool takes that to the next level. You've purchased a new $500 router...why can't you just simply purchase the new $70 LED light module that fits it?

I feel the US division is very, very SKU counts focused. Trying to severly limit the stocked SKUs. This is the case also in Europe, but to a much lesser extent.

Not sure what is the core motivation there, but this seems to permeate the whole NAINA thing in a big way.

I believe this will need new management coming *or* - if the issue is logistics - possibly a new bigger and more effcient warehouse to both increase the capacity and decrease the stocking costs that affect small things SKU economy.

Well, Festool NA's inventory system is the backside of that whiteboard Minnie uses in Festool Live.  There's only so much space there so some things have to be omitted.

I thought someone posted that a reliable source said that the LM itself would be coming to the US as a separate item later in 2024?  Between the separate SKU for the LM as well as the -Plus-LM package, you'd have a hard time pushing people to get the ZS kit if they already had the LM from another source.  Keeping the kit $50 cheaper is a side effect of that.

Here's the BOM for the ZS-OF 1010 M:

Still with the annoying slot screws ("because otherwise some people might overtighten them")...

Kind of weird that the kit doesn't include the LED light for the 1010 too?

If it is the same as the European version, the only thing in there is a handful of screws, for the copy rings and extended base plate.
I just got that set from Germany a couple of weeks ago.

Another systainer full of foam.

The circle thing and copy rings fit fine in the router bit systainer. The rest used to fit just fine in the same Systainer as the actual machine.

Just look at it... it's like 60% foam.

True, a lot of air too. That open area under the printed card on the right side is just space for router bits. Rows of 1/4" and 8mm holes.
I didn't bother to calculate it, but I would imagine that it still costs less than buying each of those items individually.

Yes, but it still eats an enormous amount of space. Look at Systainer sizes from 10 years ago and now... you easily end up with a 35% higher stack. For nothing extra.

The guide rail adapter fits perfectly vertically in the classic Systainer from my 20 year old OF 1010. On the left rear. The inlay has a nice place for it. Currently the OF1010 ships in a 27mm higher box that apparently doesn't have a space for the guide rail adapter??

[member=8955]Coen[/member] I'm sure you are right, we both have issues with the Sys3 sizes. I really don't care one way or the other about the overall size though. If something doesn't fit in a TLoc1, you put it in a TLoc 2, simple and it doesn't screw up the originally designed system.
Jumping up a "proper" size wouldn't matter, this tomfoolery does.
This set could very well have fit in a TLoc.

Just received the new KBS C Syslite today, can give a few first impressions:

- At max brightness it's easily enough to fully light a small room. Fully lights about half of my garage.
- At lowest brightness you can still easily light an area of a few m2 with good visibility, just not as bright
- Build quality seems excellent, feels very sturdy. Part of the main body is metal (guessing for heat dissipation)
- Magnets quite strong, sticks very well to some sheet metal (also accidentally stuck to keys in my pocket, took a bit of force to get off)
- Battery indicator on the light itself is useful, no need to open up the light to check the level on the battery itself
- One minor annoyance is that the brightness knob spins infinitely in either direction, there's no hard stop. Instead it indicates max and min brightness by briefly flashing the light on and off. Gives me a bit of a stroboscope feeling, kind of annoying. Also, it's literally one rotation of the knob from min to max brightness so you hit the ends very quickly, making it hard to avoid the flash. Just nitpicking, but just having stops or having a tactile indicator would have been more user friendly.

Overall my first impression is very positive.
