Hello, I received 3 TID-18 impact drivers from a reputable physical store (online purchase) delivered today.
they all sound different. I'm normally a dewalt guy so I know how a drill/impact driver normally sounds. Take a look at the video and let me know if I'm crazy or not.
The first sounds fine, the other two sound bad to me. Brand new.

Tomorrow call Festool Canada and link them this video. That's not normal.
I haven’t growled about a Festool tool that I haven’t bought locally. This was from a store 5 hour drive away and I got it online. I can’t return it to the store without shipping it back. Does Festool do free shipping back to them? I have a Festool repair place local to me maybe I can drop it off. It’s a new tool, I don’t really want a repair/reburb.

Like I said: call Festool Canada. I know FTUSA. I don't know FTCA. Here, you call FTUSA and speak with the rep about the issue and then work out a solution. Typically, they will have you ship the tool to them, repair it and ship it back. All of it will be covered under the Festool 3 year warranty. Unless you want to return it under the 30 day guarantee - then you'll need to speak to your dealer about that.

Your questions are legit. However, they will best be answered by FT itself. We can only tell you that "yeah, it sounds mucked up."

I've sent an email to the store about the situation asking if they can send a prepaid shipping label for the return since it's a 5 hour drive away from me. I'd rather return it under the 30 days and try two more than send off 2 drills and have them repaired at this point since they're a day old. If I have to send this large box to the store it'll cost me about $80.

I guess you can’t just return the drivers and avoid shipping the bulky Systainer’s, since the serial numbers are on the boxes?

Tool Serial numbers are on the Systainers, too, so yes, that would likely be a barrier for a retailer to accept just the tool back.

Definitely not crazy. #2 sounds awful, #3 sounds like it’s only a matter of time until it will sound like #2. Do not return under the 30 day customer satisfaction scheme, return clearly as defective on arrival with the dealer. Any dealer worth their salt will provide a shipping label for the return. At the end of the day, these need to be checked by Festool as there is clearly something very wrong.

Kind regards,
Oliver

I heard back, the store is sending me an RMA and prepaid return label for both of the TID 18's. I put notes inside the box saying what was wrong and how it can be reproduced (trigger half way vs full) and said they were defective on arrival and should be returned to Festool, not resold as returns.

My TID 18 sounds like the first one; I've never heard a TID 18 sound like #2 or #3.
