New Festool tools - Fall 2013

Guys, don't jump to conclusions about the CT 17. It's a nice rugged vac, probably just as good as the rest of Festool vacs. Festool probably kept this one in the line-up because it was Protools' best selling vac and popular on building sites for tool extraction and general clean up. You can also see it doesn't come with an anti-static hose, they probably added this one to the Festool line as a low budget option for the rougher environment.

People also shouldn't worry that the Mini is going to be replaced by this. Not gonna happen. Ever.

But I surely hope these new tools aren't all the tools they're gonna keep from the Protool line. It's just a handful.

Yes it works with the FS Guide Rails, all the new tools have come over from the Protool Range.

Not all of the new tools are rebadged Protools. I'm sure Festool UK will provide more information about new products soon.

All are, except the new cordless hammer drill. And that one probably was in the pipe already for a couple of years to be added to the Protool range.

Anyone know what the difference is between the QuaDrive DRC 18V Cordless Drill and the T18+3?  I was shortly going to get a C15, which is obviously different to both (!), but the QuaDrive drill looks pretty awesome from some of the Protool videos of it I've seen (and I'm assuming it will behave the same, just be a different colour).

My regular dealer and my local dealer went to Dealers event not long ago  hence why I knew about new Mini, Midi coming out and I was told not all tools from Protool are exactly the same when they turned Festool some changes have been made.

The Hammer drill doesn't have chisel mode because it was designed to be extremely light and to drill holes all day long but having chisel action it puts more wear and strain on the tool which its not designed for.

Bigger heavier but also more powerfull I think and heavier duty.

I'm guessing they'll be exactly the same, just with a different hose garage. They've already upgraded the motor so it's the same spec as the bigger vacs, so no change there. Maybe they'll add the HEPA filter?

If they were radically different, they wouldn't have just released the long life bags for the existing ones, so they must fit the new ones too.

There's quite the difference. The T18 has 2 gears with a maximum rpm of 1500 and the DRC as 4 gears with a max rpm of 3800. The high rpm is a delight to work with, makes you work very fast. And as was said, the DRC is more rugged.

But there's no eccentric head for the DRC, only an angled one.

No they have t-loc link so that's different straight away

Wonder if they'll do the hose garage separately if anyone wants to upgrade their old midi.

Wouldn't bother me much I suppose, having to latch 4 catches just on the vac isn't a problem.

JMB,

That's what I meant by a different hose garage. One with T-loc connectivity.

Is there a ETA for US release on any of these new tools. I might just buy the UK version and ship it here if it's gonna be more than 6 months.

Maybe the updated Mini/Midi, but I'd be very surprised if we'd see any of the other tools in less than a year, if ever.

...beloved festool...
...please give us also a dremel...
...sometimes...a life without him...
...so to speak...
...without sparks...

Could that be why they told me the mini/midi isn't coming back to Canada? Because its in fact getting replaced by an update.

I would guess so. The mini/midi recall is because it doesn't have CSA approval. I doubt very much there is any technical reason why Festool couldn't get it approved; but it would cost a lot of money. That money would effectively be wasted if the products are being replaced/updated in a relatively short timeframe, hence they chose not to do it. That is my take on it, correct or otherwise [smile]

Shane, has there been any official communication from Festool USA to end users about the situation in Canada related to a few products?

Has there even been any announcement about new versions of the Mini and Midi dust extractors?

I am sure such information will be of comfort to our friends located in Canada.
