Festool Cleantex CT26 and 36 are ready for pre order as well as the rest of the lineup.  Shoot over any questions you guys may have.

I'll be getting products mid September and release date is October 1.  There will be limited quantities with the initial release so be sure to reserve a unit in advance if you're serious about getting one in a timely manner.

Time to prepare my CT22 for sale.  [big grin]

Maybe is just me trying to talk myself out of spending more money, but I don't see a need to upgrade.  I'm curious, what about the new Vac has you "trading up" to the new units?

Fabric bag for starters, little bit larger capacity in what looks like the same foot print.

Oh, I like shiny things as well.

Jeff,

I am with you.  My CT-22 works great.  It's about 18 months old and does what I want it to.  I don't see that the modifications to the replacement vac are going to provide any cost benefit to me.  Certainly if I was looking for a new vac the Festool would be right there.

Same thing with the new drills.  I like my C12 drill.  Have had it for 2 years and it works great.  I did need a hammer drill so I had to turn to Makita since Festool does not offer this in the US.

Great questions, here are my best answers.

You get the hose garage.  That right there covers the increase in cost for the vacuum.  I mean come on, you woulda bought the hose garage anyway!

So with that out of the way  we can say the vacuum is really the same price as the old 22's and 33's.  So now, why is it actually better?

More CFM (increase in suction power)
Cord wrap is on top half of unit (don't have to unwrap cord to open up unit like you did on old vacs)
Self cleaning bag (consistently powerful suction, does not drop off as more material builds up in bag)
Larger Capacity (Bout an extra gallon and a half or so)
Easily accessible wheel lock (just like midi and mini)
Hose comes out of center of unit (older ct 22's and 33's had hose off to the side so when you pulled the vac by the hose it wouldn't come straight toward ya)
Quick and easy filter changes
Much much sexier
Tastes better

Those are the biggies off the top of my head.  Got to see one a week or two ago in Lebanon.  You guys will appreciate them.  It's a significant improvement but by no means an "upgrade now!!!"

This figures.  I waited for months to buy a CT22 and TS55 and right after I get it there is a new version coming out.  I bought this with the 10% off promotion so the CT22 cost me $454.  I believe there is a 30 day return period so should I return the CT22 and get the CT26 instead?  I still have a few weeks to return it and since it won't be out until Oct I would be without a vac for a month.  If you were in my shoes what would you do?

Honest answer?  It's up to you.  Can you handle not having a dust extractor for a month or so?  If so, I'd say hop on the new unit.  Maybe even sell your old one online.  You'd be surprised at what it will fetch.  Like I said, you'll be buying the hose garage at some point if you haven't, so the vacs are really the same price and you get a better unit.

You may as well get the latest and greatest for your hard earned money if you want it.  I bought a CT22 about 7 months ago and I am very happy with it for now.  Is more suction really needed?  I am using a Dust Deputy with mine so I don't plan on going through a lot of bags.  Maybe I'll get another CT one of these days but either way the 22 is a nice improvement over my roaring sears vac that I used for several years with my Festools.

Best,
Todd

My 22 is awesome, I have no plans to get rid of it.

I am wanting another vac so, I will plan on buying a new 26.

Would I be able to return it within 30 days if the only reason was because I wanted the new version instead?  If I were to sell it how much could I get for a 2 month old CT22 with minimal use?

I think you would if it is no questions asked return policy for 30 days.  You might get close to what you have in it with the discount but the new buyer would probably have to figure in shipping too if you sell it.  Shipping could probably be $25-$50 depending on distance.

Funny thing is the hose garage is not an issue for me as I am using with the Dust Deputy.  No plans to buy one for me.

Best
Todd

This is off topic but do you lose the anti-static feature when you use the DD?

Regarding the question about buying the vacuum, then returning it after 30 days...this really doesn't seem fair to the dealer or Festool.  Unnecessary returns on non-defectives cost dealers and manufacturers tons of money, which is ultimately pasted along to customers.

And since Festool crushes returns and rockets the parts into the Sun to avoid any possibility that someone could buy a Festool at anything less than full retail, we should discourage gaming the system.  [wink]

In fairness, mavdog isn't trying to "game" the system according to his original post. He bought the CT22 in good faith and soon after, a new model was announced. I think it would be completely acceptable to exchange it for the new model if he can and the dealer/ Festool permits, but it would be unfair to continue to use it if you know you intend to return it.

It is akin to buying something at full price and then finding out it is going on sale the next day. I remember this happened to me ten years ago in New York and the store told me to come in during the sale and obtain a refund of the difference. Apparently there is a two week grace period during which the store refund customers who have paid full price the difference. I do not know if this is NY law or simply store policy (it was Bloomingdales).

I think the best thing would have been for the dealer to inform mavdog that there was a new model coming out and leave him to make a purchasing decision with all the necessary information at hand.

Richard.

Well, the release date wasn't posted until recently so the dealer likely didn't about when the new model was coming out.  Even a small amount of research would have told MavDog the new vacs were coming out soon.

Hold on a minute.... Didn't Festool make the policies and don't they set the prices? It seems to me  then if I or anyone else pay my money, takes my choice and plays by the rules Festool established how in the world have I or anyone else damaged Festool? It seems to me this is in part why one might choose to pay the price for a premium tool; for those policies or options if I may call them that. So, in the end isn't it figured into the pricing and the Festool policies?

Now what may be more of a gaming the system scenario might be if someone buys the tool, takes it to the job and completes the job, and then returns it to the store and asks for their money to be returned with no intention of keeping EVER keeping the tool or exchanging it for another.  But again if this is done within the policies established, and it could happen, but it is possibly not morally proper.

Best,
Todd
