New Flying camera.

Great videos posted here.  Seems like you need some skill to fly one, though.  The Lily is the way to go for me and only $700:

I'm with you [thumbs up], the Lily is pretty neat. The waterproof footage was way cool.

Another cool drone still in the planning stages is the Sprite.  I like how you can plot it's flight path on your phone using what looks like a GPS satellite image.  My point is, we are at the dawn of a new era in hi-def remote video.

Those are cool.  I finally got my DJI Phantom 3 Advanced a couple of weeks ago.  I am still in the learning stage.

I preordered a zano for my sister from kick starter thats supposed to ship within the next couple months. She's a photography student going into her second year of college so it was a good fit. Check it out on flyzano.com the thing is outrageous in that it can follow you and evade things.

Too Cool!

I almost helped the Zano project on Kickstarter, but I came across a video showing the thing run and while it is impressive for the price point, the thing is very, very loud!

I know all of these consumer "drones" are a bit loud but the new autonomous ones to take pics and video while heading down the slopes are designed to be small and somewhat stealthy.

I do hope the Lilly is a bit quieter as it is a bit bigger but unfortunately I can't find a real world video for it right now. It is a same because they have some good funding prices at the moment!

Peter, interested if you could share some of your experiences. How is the learning curve on the Phantom 3? Did you have experience of earlier drones?

Sorry for my delay in getting back to you.  The modern quadcopters take much of the skill out of the equation.  The DJI Phantom 3 is definitely in this class.  There are many functions that help you automate and then there some designed  to keep you out of trouble and get your toy home.

There is a beginner mode that places limits on altitude and distance away from you.  There are firmware controls that calculate the battery usage and force the quad to come back to you or land immediately based on the battery level.

The app has many options and I really need to spend some time in a field and not around the trees at might house that are about 100 feet tall.

Pretty cool toy / tool.

Thanks Peter. I had a look at the Microdrone, mentioned by [member=18116]Clweed[/member], and placed an order to try out before moving up to the bigger drones.

I think we need one specific section on this forum for cool toys ... and a profile option to suppress it [embarassed]

... I'm weakening towards one of these things!

Kev, couldn't you attach a chainsaw to it and use it instead of your pole pruner?

Then it'd also come in useful in dealing with the odd annoying neighbour [wink]

I can imagine this setup featuring in the next Mad Max movie.  [scared]

that's hilarious.  looks like harvesting time at the qwas orchards.  those green dogs look like they got picked off the tree a bit early--still too green.  i would recommend allowing for a bit more ripening time...
