New Hammer A3-26 arrived today - broken!

I had the following reply from their sales manager, Steve Pike (I'm sure they won't mind me posting it as it very good advert for their customer service):

"As Matthew is away at the moment, I wanted to keep you informed about the delivery of the Hammer A3-26.

We have had confirmation from the factory that your new machine will be with us in the next three weeks. The machine will be fully checked over in Milton Keynes by our service team and we will then arrange a convenient time with yourself for our engineer to deliver and commission this machine.

Our engineer will then take the damaged A3-26 away with him.

I understand you are on holiday soon, when are you back? I just want to ensure we have some dates pencilled in for you.

Many thanks and I apologise for the inconvenience you have experienced so far with the delivery of your A3-26.

Best Regards

Steve Pike"

Well I think that Hammer have demonstrated that they take quality and customer service seriously something that I believe is at the heart of the Festool way of doing business.

I have had 2 deliveries/orders from Hammer, a N4400 which was all fine, then a k3 and an a3-31. For the last delivery the service was excellent, was an 18 tonne lorry, which he left on the main road, then he had a forklift which rides on the back of the lorry, so he drove the pallets with this right into my garage on put them down where I wanted.

If people are interested in buying w14 exhibition at the NEC in October is a good chance as they have show deals, that's where I ordered mine and went through all the options where I could actually see them.

The replacement machine was delivered and commissioned (free of charge - its normally £230 extra) today by Mark of Felder. He spent 3 and 1/4 hours setting it up and checking everything. He also showed my how to use the machine and was very patient, answering all of my questions (and there were dozens).

Very impressed with the machine and with their engineer.

It's unfortunate that you had to deal with a problem, but it sounds like they did everything they could to make it right and make it up to you?

Congrats on your new baby! Now, where are the pictures?

I didn't take any pictures of the installation but will take some of the outcome!

I have two Hammer machines, a K3 Winner and the A3-31.  I have nothing but good things to say about their products and service in the U.S.  I recently had a small issue with a metric digital handwheel insert.  They sent me the wrong one because their website was wrong and didn't give me the option of selecting which kind I wanted, imperial or metric and the one they did send was out of a demonstrator, sound familiar?  I sent that one back and they expressed the correct one to me right away.  Other than that, it's been all good.  At some point, I think I'm going to sell my K3 and get either a B3 with the shaper or the Felder KF 500.  They are just a joy to use and nice compliment to my Festool equipment.

I will post photos soon but I can update my impressions of the machine.

I tried planing the face of a board today as a test. (around 150mm wide by 27mm thick).

Everything was perfect even though the board was 2 metres long. I then tried the thicknessing which was also absolutely flawless with no snipe. I decided then to try planing an edge using the fence. Again a perfect result with no snipe. The angle of the two faces to the adjacent edge was dead nuts perfect.

Not only did I get perfect results - it was all so easy. I am absolutely knocked out by the quality of this product and will be ordering an N4400 bandsaw tomorrow (they are on offer in the uk at the moment).

Great, I used my a3-31 this weekend to make some Accoya window cills and was superb, with the digital gauge could get thickness to a 1/10th of mm no problems (just don't take a huge bite out for the final cut). If you can get down to W14 at the NEC they should have some show deals, that what I did a couple of years ago to order my K3 and A3

Felder have told me about their show prices and will honour these even if I don't attend the show.
