new jig for router

Hi Peter, nifty tool find. I wanted to ask where will you go to buy it?  Richelieu is the only Fastcap distributer in this part of Canada, but they only sell to commercial clients and must have an account.

Isn't that just an accident waiting to happen? One unfortunate slip and your hand/fingers will get a little too intimate knowledge of the inner workings of a router bit spinning at 20000rpm...

Thanks but no thanks if you ask me!

I am fortunate that I live about 15 minutes north of the border on the west coast so I can drive to their factory. Which is about 15 miles south of said border.

Cheers,

don't see it as that much more unsafe for roughly 1/2 the price of this.

Presuming that the bit guard was removed for display purposes.

Hmmm, not entirely the same if you ask me. With the Festool part your hand is parallel to the router bit. With the FastCap jig it's behind it, if you slip, the bit gets stuck, the router jerks, you lose your balance or trip over something etc. you continue your forward movement towards the router bit, as opposed to away from the router bit with the Festool part.

I agree. In FastCap contraption when router encounters a knot or whatever it will jerk and rotate around its pivot point - the FastCap jig. It is less likely to happen in Festool jig (plus the bit is kind of under it).
In addition you can't start trimming from the very corner. Have to rotate/reposition the router.

I like it, I could see using one of those on a trim router.

Just add it to the list of fastcap products I want but can't buy (without ridiculous shipping/duty charges)

Glue bot, sawstache, zero clearance tape, and now little lipper...

I know it is a bit late to respond to this thread but just for other Festool owners' reference:
Festool has thought about this and there is a setup for it:
You can use 486052 and 486058 to not only get the same feature but also you will get micro adjustment and better than that you would not need to drill your beautiful router!

We have these parts in stock in case you need them:

And act fast before they are discontinued.  And don't forget to throw in the chip deflector as well (486242), without which the workpiece will be covered in sawdust.
