New Kapex 120 glide action feels rough

Guys

Received my Kapex120 this week and I'm very impressed with it however I'm not so sure the sliding action is right, it feels bumpy or juddery in the hand especially close to the back stroke. I was expecting this action to be silky smooth. It feels like it has bearings in the housing but one sides missing some balls or something.

Is this normal or do I need to raise a ticket with Festool UK?

Thanks.

Rough ideas:
- did you release the black slide stop knob far enough?
- is the hose catching somewhere?
- is the rubber dust extraction chute at the bottom of the blade catching on the fence?

Thanks for the pointers

I checked the release knob wasn't catching and tested it without the hose to the same effect. I will double check the dust chute isn't catching but it definitely feels more mechanical and has a noise like loose bearings make in tune with it.

Send it back to where you bought it and get another one. The glide action should be very smooth.

Agree...return it for a new one. The action should be very smooth and feel uniform across the full cutting width.

+1.  For what we spend on the saw, the glide action should be perfectly smooth out of the box.

Totally agree with exchanging it.  Remember that in the UK you have 15 days.

Guys thanks for all the comments. Had another play today its definitely not silky smooth as others have agreed it should be in fact I would say its substantially rougher than the Evolution Rage3 it replaces  ::) . Its definitely a grainy feel through the handle I spent a minute or two pulling it back and forward to see if it smoothed out as its cut < 20cuts and its still the same. I'll raise a ticket with the dealer and take it from there.

Thanks

Can anyone chime in here that had the same problem? I noticed it when I got my saw, but felt it's quiet normal. But now that I used my 300$ Metabo saw one day, it feels like a night and day difference. The Kapex really has some resistance to it and the description in the original post pretty much explains what I'm feeling when pulling or pushing the saw handle.

By itself (without any hose attachment), the glide should be silky smooth and effortless. Anything less may suggest an issue of some kind.

I really don't want to send my otherwise perfect mitre saw back, risking it gets damaged or thrown out of alignment when getting handled by UPS.  [crying]
Man this sucks.

If the less-than-perfect sliding doesn't affect the operation or the cutting results, I'd definitely not send it in for "servicing."

Could you try spraying a lubricant on the rails to see if it makes a difference?

I use this for various tools/drilling metals:

[member=76743]sai1[/member] , can you post a video or audio clip of any noise it makes or any hangup that you feel in the motion?  I definitely understand your trepidation in shipping it to/from Lebanon.

Return it and get another one.

This is why you pay a premium for Festool.

I tested  out the scms  rail slides  on  Bosch, Makita, Milwaukee, Hikoki, Festool and  Metabo  recently  in a huge  store  where  they  are  all on display.
Makita  and  Festool  had  the smoothest  running  bar slides.

People post problems with their tools, and disappear! Without coming back and saying what was eventually done to fix the tool, you're just cluttering the forum with "unresolved problems". Let's make sure to come back and post the final fix, guys. So that people that search with similar issues can know wat to do.

Editing your profile to show your location is also a useful habit, guys. Cheers!

Snip.

This happens everywhere, and in some cases due to no follow-up responses, one couldn't but wonder if the reported issue or complaint really existed or was just a bad-mouthing attempt. Usually, those who make an effort to include images or videos to explain their problems can be counted on having a proper closure with their posts.

Chill Guys.

The original poster has not posted in this thread for some time.  So what.  He is still active and visiting the forum.

The current poster is still active and trying to rectify his situation.  Hopefully we will find out his solution / rectification.

I don't think imdking's comment is targeting at anyone in specific, but a general observation which, based on my experience here and in other forums, is sometimes true.

Oh, absolutely.  There are some people who come by and lob that literary flaming bag of dog poop and are never to be heard from again.  Then there are those also who come just to try and get an answer and will only return when they have another.  Yes, I agree that it would be a whole lot better to read about the eventual outcomes more frequently.
