New Kapex

and maybe a finger print recogniser, so I could take it to work and it wouldn't work for anyone  but me! bwahahahahaha

The more I think about this the more I like the idea!

This is the sort of technology that MUST be incorporated in weapons or various kinds. Imagine a pistol that only fire in the hands of the policeman (or partner if multiples) it was allocated to.

.... and your car ....

Kev,

I wouldn't go that far with safety and other devices. If you can't save a life  because you don't have the right finger print to operate a defibrillator or save a life... [eek] or  Having consulted in the power industry when you drive in to refineries and chem plants you are required to leave all vehicle unlocked and with keys in the ignition. If the alarms go off you get in the nearest vehicle and and go.

I just thinking that from  skills training people that aren't trained or authorized its a no go.

Also from a theft deterrent standpoint you can't turn it on it would be hard to sell, pawn etc. Might lower insurance rates?

Cheers,
Steve

There'd need to be sensible limits and appropriate override options. Biometric security isnt that hard to implement.

Unfortunately the worst part of biometric security is the fact that you cannot change the key if it gets stolen i.e. someone cuts your finger to bypass the fingerprint scanner or worse.

At a work site probably a simple 6-digit code lock with an exponential cool down period after every invalid PIN-entry would be a lot safer & cheaper solution.

Or more conveniently usable solution would be a built-in near field transceiver activation from a key fob like modern car keys. That could be a spin-off feature of the cordless VAC trigger mechanism discussed in another thread and we could have stationary tools plugged in to the wall all the time and just move the VAC hose around instead of hose + plug-it.

If you are on a job site with other trades, you can always use the Fastfix knob to disable the trigger while you are away from the saw.  Most people won't even notice.  That idea was passed on by another FOG member.

Peter

What a great idea! I'm going to try that. I might take the saw into work on a Saturday when there's only 6 or 7 of us trim guys on site.

If I could have a wish on the kapex? that they design a detent over-ride. It sucks that when I need 45.4 degrees, it slides backward into the 45 degree slot. Most other saws have some sort of mechanisim to do this!

Note: When setting a miter angle very close to one of the miter stops (for example, at 45½° ), keep holding down the miter stop release lever until you fully engage the miter lock lever, to prevent the miter angle from jumping to the nearby miter stop position.

I didn't read my manual [sad] for longer than I care to say, until I found this.  If this is not the problem, please disregard.

Cheers, Sam

Thanks Sam! I am going to try that in the morning :)

Looks like Festool anticipated my quesitons! I got nothing left to whine about! LOL

[oops]  Hope it works for you!  Not sure about anything smaller than half a degree.

We need that smiley that is slapping himself in the forhead.  Do it on a daily basis.

Well reading that just put a cold shiver up my spine as I have just ordered a Kapex.
Thanks to the guys for their opinion on NO changes for a while.
I haven't been caught out yet but my mate was with the new rotex some years ago.
He was not happy as he did ask and was also assured that there was no new one coming.
6 months later there it was.

Now that a year has past since this post was first initiated, I thought I'd ask the question again.  Are there any plans to release a refreshed design?

Forget the bigger Kapex, I want a SMALLER one.

I moved from the 7-¼" Makita slider to the Kapex and I love it, but the little Makita is only 27 pounds and can easily be carried in one hand.  It also can crosscut a 12" shelf and miter 6" crown molding as a double bevel (crown flat on table).

I would buy the 7" one for site and keep my big boy in the shop.

be good for me to know this too. i waited for the updated ts55 to come out and my current dewalt mitre saw is a bit old now. realy wanna go kapex rather than get a makita. i had considered the bosch glide saw but dunno how good bosch are these days considering the 2 bosch sds drills 2-28 model both seem to hammer when they want too

Buy the Kapex. You will not be sorry.  Its a great saw that's easy to use.  After using  the kapex for a while now, even if they came out with a bigger saw I think I would still prefer the this setup.

Sean

It's ironic that if they brought out a bigger KAPEX, that'd be the one I'd be moving about - making the current one into a semi-permanent station (as I'd tend to cut bigger stuff outside the garage). [tongue]

well here in the UK the price of the  120 is dropping rapidly, could be trying to clear stock me thinks  [unsure]

There certainly hasn't been any sort of official mention here about a new Kapex model.

When discounting ended, and prices rose on April 1, the official Kapex price actually went down approx.  $A100.00 in Australia.

Is there a new model coming, was it because it is a volume seller, or a compromise because one previous discount price was $A200 below the then official?

This is interesting.

When I was looking at SCMS a couple of years ago I chose the Bosch Glide 12" as it a) looked like and sweet piece of kit with the glide axial arms and b) the Kapex 120 was about £400 more expensive at £1100 and I couldn't justify the extra cost.

Just looked on my favourite tool supplier in the UK (FFX) and the Kapex is actually now about £30 less than the Bosch @ £699!  In my experience (whilst there might be other explanations) 9 times out of 10 when this happens there generally is a new or updated version lurking round the corner.

Just bought my 2nd Kapex. It was delivered last week. Have always had very good experiences with my first one and have seen many times on this forum that the Kapex did not go on sale because there was a new model coming out. IF that turns out false, credibility of Festool will definitely come into question.

Certainly is interesting, At such a large outlay for a kapex there's a fair bit of risk involved.
There was the same speculation when they had the 10% off Kapex sale in the USA recently.

If there was to be a new model, what features or improvements would it have, or would people like to see over the current model?
