New Kapex

Just bought my 2nd Kapex. It was delivered last week. Have always had very good experiences with my first one and have seen many times on this forum that the Kapex did not go on sale because there was a new model coming out. IF that turns out false, credibility of Festool will definitely come into question.

I posted what I have read here.  Although it might appear that I as a moderator should have inside information on releases, marketing, etc, the opposite is true.  The last thing any company would want is to give that sort of information to a non-employee who is prolific on the internet.

That being said - how many other manufacturers of anything other than cars give advance notice of replacement item?

Hope you like your Kapex as I like mine.

Peter I am not putting any responsibility on you at all. I just said that this theory had been discussed on this forum many times. I for one was reluctant to upgrade my 6 year old Kapex, but after reading here that the sale was not because of an upgrade, I did purchase one. To find out that there was a new improved saw coming would be a big disappointment. I love my (2) Kapex's.

Four further thoughts -

'Let's start a rumour it might become true!'

Festool and other manufacturers often hint at new releases through existing product discounts/specials. Eg. sharp pricing of C15s in UK and Aust, prior to C18 release.

If you waited for the next best thing, you would buy, enjoy and use nothing!
[size=12pt]I will have had 2-3 months use of a C15, before C18 is released here. Yes the slim 2.6 amp batt would be great, but there is little else, given the intended use of C Drills. [size=14pt]

And as Peter implies, until and if a new KAPEX is released, this is all intrigue and speculation.  Oh what fun!  [big grin]

I am not ruling out that a new, smaller Kapex is closer at hand than we might think. One of the few people I know who has been in the Festool factory  - quite recently - hinted that a smaller version Kapex is actually coming. He brought it up as he was interested in one for himself and had seen the prototype. He is not known for spreading rumors. I told him I would by a smaller Kapex unseen and told him to reserve one for me whenever it is due for release.

I do have the large Kapex and I love it but rarely bring it for onsite work.

As for the C15 vs C18 I was told by an official Festool rep in Sweden that the C18 was NOT going to happen and that Festool had "ruled it out due to possibly high wrist strain due to high torque". This seemed like an informed answer - and the answer was No.

One month and a half later, the C18 starts shipping. This ticked me off good as I bought a C15 which I then could not return as I was past the return policy window.  [mad]

There ALREADY is a smaller Kapex. It's called the Kapex 88...and of course it is NAINA

[attachimg=1]

Kapex KS88

Lighter weight, but not in performance.

    For precision double column
Compact, lightweight design for easy carrying
FastFix saw blade changing for material-specific working

Main applications

Cutting of boards and panels up to 305 x 88 mm
Fitting crown moldings up to 168 mm in "original wall position"
Hats squared timber and beams up to 88 mm thickness

I've seen it in Germany at my dealer there, and would love to have one, but alas it is only 220V and I don't want to lug around a transformer.

Cheers,

Frank

Just looked on my favourite tool supplier in the UK (FFX) and the Kapex is actually now about £30 less than the Bosch @ £699!

Wrong that's the 88 model, the cheaper version. The 120 is still over £800

Frank, that saw isn't smaller at all, it just has several features missing. The 120 vs 88 is because the "special cutting position" is left off.

Ah yes, you are absolutely correct!

However the premise of my post still stands. The Bosch is £727 and the Festoool £824 only a £97 difference, as opposed to the £300-£400 difference a few years ago.

Well, I don't know what the model number was, but there was DEFINITELY a smaller Kapex in Germany...and that was two years ago as well. Smaller footprint and smaller blade...for sure!

I just went through a bunch of old photos, and found the one of my dealer's showroom below. Taken two years ago. Notice the circled Kapex on the shelf in the background. Compare with the picture of the KS88 in my earlier thread. DIFFERENT saws!  I can't bring it up any sharper. Loses detail, but it isn't a 120 just missing the special cutting position. Much is different on that saw.
Maybe not made anymore, but I wasn't dreaming! [big grin]  I don't remember the actual details, and maybe it was only a chop saw, but I seem to remember it being some kind of slider.

Here's some info on that saw for you Frank.

http://www.powertool-supplies.co.uk/festool-compound-mitre-saw-sym-70-e-gb-240v-symmetric.html?gclid=CjwKEAjwmfKpBRC8tb3Mh5rs23ASJACWy1QPtShOjBw02OIQV26rltJw9A7OZmHloJEf6L4i2VVpyhoCB-Pw_wcB

Frank,

There is another smaller miter saw there.  But it isn't called a Kapex.  I'll go look for the info but someone will beat me to it.

Peter

That's a symmetric 70 (link in locks14's post). It's an older model but still sold; it doesn't bevel, nor does the table rotate, the sawhead is in a fixed position and both the fences, left and right, move symmetrically. Never used one, but it seems it's fairly limited in use (picture frames and small base/mouldings)

found a youtube video (in French): link

I KNEW I hadn't been dreaming! [big grin]

Ok...not Kapex, but it IS a Festool NAINA Compound Miter Saw.

Suddenly, looking at the pics and specs above, I'm not quite as envious of the Europeans. Don't think I'd want it even if it WAS available here. Two years ago....who knows... [blink]

Cheers,

Frank

P.S.  I am happy to see that the new Kapex to be introduced will be a 12", cordless Hydrogen Cell powered, Hands-Free, and Wireless controlled Compound Saw! [dead horse] [big grin]

The SYM 70 is made to be a plinth specialist. In no way is it a fully functional miter saw. There is no sliding or beveling.

You joke, but the new Bosch, SawStop competitor has Near Field Communication, to enable interface with smartphones and lock the tool/disable the blade safety feature...

Ya, well at the price Bosch is asking for their SawStop competitor, they should also be throwing in a years worth of valet service for your favorite restaurant.

So I'm just debating about buying the Kapex or the Bosch Axi Glide and I read this.

So now I'm in a muddle!
