Hello all! Forgive me, I am new--!  [laughing]

I just got this today from Amazon. Am I missing a part? The long metal bar with a couple of holes. I have tried to hilite the part in the pictures. I did get the two smaller ones with knobs, those dont show up in the systainer pictorial layout (what are they?). So, am I missing something and if so, is it something i can buy on its own, or should I send the whole thing back and try again?

Also, should there be any paperwork, manual etc..?

THANKS in advance--

The short parts are the parts that you use at the ends of the rail to reference the starting point.  I believe that the longer ones would be to connect two holed rails together to maintain the 32mm pattern.  If you are saying that you did not get the long ones, I might be wrong, but I don't believe that they are included in the kit (unless you have multiple rails you wouldn't need them).

There was a change to the LR 32 kit and system in 2011. The long bar in the OP photo is used in several ways. Normally they replace the shorter bars used screwed into the holes of a Holy rail to stop the work on each end.

Should it be necessary to connect two or more Holy rails, first of all you still need normal Festool connector bars as with any guide rails. These new longer bars are used to ensure the holes in the Holy rails are exactly 32mm on center when connected. You only need one of them when spacing the holes, but you normally use them at each end of the Holy rail to correctly index the holes from top to bottom.

Carroll,

So does it seem to you that he got an older style kit (pre-change)?

Peter

Yes, that seems to be the case. The new longer bars accomplish everything done by the older shorter bars and then some.

I sure hope the OP got a very good discount on this obsolete set, enough to pay for a pair of the new longer bars.

So if I understand correctly, though I may have an older set, it will still work OK, and I am technically not missing anything..?

Is there supposed to be any manual or booklet?

Do you have a part number for the longer bars (two of them correct?) if i wanted to add them to my set?

And no, this was a current retail price purchase from Amazon.

THANKS again..

Well, the downside to the older short LR 32 bars are that they do not ensure 32mm on center spacing of the reference holes when coupling Holy rails. Also, the short bars only provide reference to centered on the holes and 16mm offset.

Probably the 16mm offset is the most popular, because with that plus 2 shipped hole you have the standard 80mm starting point.

But there are situations when you need some other offsets, all provided by correctly using the newish longer bars.

The OP did not indicate owning more than one Holy rail, so coupling those could be a non issue, but the additional reference offsets of the newer bars are very important in the real world of cabinet making.

As for the part numbers, I suggest strongly phoning the Festool USA service department found on all Festools.

As far as I know, and I own many of the LR-32 sets, they do not include an instruction book. However when you speak to the service department ask for any instructions. If available I am confident those will be sent to you.

Here is the info on the connectors:

I'll let Carroll answer questions and because some things are better seen than read, I'll find you some video links.

Something seems fishy here.  The op shows a T-Loc in the pictures, I'm pretty sure all the T-Loc versions have the newer connectors.  I'd suggest you call Amazon or Festool to get this straightened out.
