Let me start by saying I purchased my first Festool in 2007.  Grabbed a RO150($440) and MIDI ($365?) and received the 10% discount on the package. Over the years I have spent way too much on Festool and pretty much have one or more of almost everything including 2 Midi’s a CT36 and a CT36AC.

Father retired to FL last year and I gave him the ‘07 MIDI.  Last week while in Sherwin Williams buying paint for a rental refresh before new tenant moved in I was too lazy to go back to my shop and impulsively bought a new MIDI. Ouch they got expensive  [big grin]

First thoughts like the new hose garage set up. I like the old dial more than the buttons but will get used to it. Bluetooth will be a great feature.

First thing I notice when I turn it on it’s extremely loud. Anybody else notice this or am I loosing my mind?

More powerful motor? Less sound deadening? Not sure what changed but no way it’s even close to the decibel level of my other 4 vacs?

Download a noise level app to your phone, and record the noise level for all your dust extractors (and shop vacs, if you like). Compare the results with the CT spec.

I've never noticed any appreciable difference in noise between my 2016-purchased CT-MINI and my 202x-purchased CT-MIDI-I.  I use the MIDI-I indoors as a general vacuum almost more than anything else, and I've never gotten any complaints from the rest of the house about it, either.

As Chuck mentioned, get a sound app for a device or use an SPL meter and see what the results are.  It could just be that your ears are more sensitive after being away from the CT-MIDI for over a year?

The other day I was using an old Ridgid shop vac that I had thought at the time was very loud so I downloaded a phone app only to measure spl and find it actually comes out at 80 db which is below my 2019 CT Midi I.

At the lowest setting the Midi is measuring 75-76 db from 3 feet away and 81-83 on high(ambient noise levels are 33-34).

Is this in the ballpark for what other users are experiencing with used CTs, Midi or otherwise?
