New/ old question.

  Dan,

Are you still working in Plattville ? I just sent a message, I'm not using my 1010 this week, and I already worked hard enough MTW I'm resting for a few. By the way has anyone noticed how well the Cubs are playing baseball.
                                                                                                                              Dan

I should be OK with alignment issues.  The hinges are more than likely the Blum clip tops.  Gives a bit of leeway.  I'm a bit more concerned about the wood species used for the doors.  Haven't received that info yet.  I don't mind a bit of pre drilling for screws, it 's the mountain of 35mm shavings I'm trying to control.

Thanks for your help, Dan

Dan,

Unfortunately this one is down by St. Louis.  But thanks for the offer.

Yea, Ive noticed the Cubs, but I'm from Chicago, it's early, they won't break the 100 year streak now!!!

Dan, I don't know where you are getting your hinges or if they are being provided but Blum makes some great jigs for this use, I wish you were closer and you could borrow my Blum mini press. I was in a similar situation but had about 400 doors in an apartment complex.  I figured out the price of the mini press, about $1200, added 3 dollars to each door and the press was mine.  You could probably drill 200 doors in a couple of hours including inserting the hinges.  Later on I picked up the 7 pin line driller for the press.  While I don't use this piece of equipment every day, a few times a month it is sweet to have available.

Dan, have you checked to be sure you can get the Festool hinge location bits in time?

If you know the thickness of the doors you could make a jig to replace the MFT before you get to the job. If the doors are the same height (and you know what that is) you could eliminate the need for a guide rail too, just make "parking spots" for the router.

However, you're going to need some kind of table anyway, in this line of work you'll love having an MFT.

Dan,

You can use  this jig with a hand drill. Get a big mouth dust collector attachment and go to town.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the advice.  I ended up picking up the  of1400 and a guide rail stop.  I put together a quick jig with some mdf, and went off to the races.

I was able to bore, install hinges, and stage 221 cabinet doors in about 10 hours.  This includes setup and moving my work table to 3 different floors to stay close to the work.  All this and dust (nearly) free!!

As a matter of fact, I had to demo the 1400 with the ct to the GC before he would let me cut indoors. ( I would have suggested he get into Festool, but I think he's better suited to paper clips and calculators than saws and routers!! )

Anyway, the 1400 paid for itself in one job.  Thanks again, Dan

Did you forget your camera?

Nice story though. I like happy endings. ;D

Hi Guys,  I will post a few pics when I'm back in town.  (Sat/or Sun) The jig is nothing special, just a board with a couple of stops.  But it will give me a chance to practice this download thing.  First pics with a digital, etc.  ( I AM a bit of a dinosaur)

No, Michael, I skipped the MFT at this time.  But I think maybe.  I'm just not convinced it's the set up for the way I work.  (this job not withstanding)

Thanks again for the advice, Dan
