The owner noticed the granite counter top had shifted 1/2-3/4".

No problems for 15 years, then this.

I think this wall was a failure from the beginning. You can see the amount of drywall removed to fit up the splash. They used paper towel for caulk backer on the splash.

I used stiff backs to work the studs back in place to set the shoe. When I removed the stiff backs the studs sprung back about 1/4". I decided to install the let-in to solve the problem.

I did not have any drywall with me so I used some plywood left from the sheathing.

Is there room for the pipe to move? The notch looks tight (maybe just the picture) and could "tick", and is there a screw hole in the pipe?

Not as much room as I would like, but the shoe captures it very tightly.

That was a siding nail hole.

Nice fix, Tom.  How did you fix the nail hole?  How much work was needed on the inside after the wall was coaxed back into place?

Cut up some PVC pipe, mixed the shavings with glue, opened up the hole a little, worked the paste into the pipe.

One splash was loose on the wall. I have to glue it back on when I'm there painting the cedar.

I was told the profile is called Dolly Varden, looked it up and they were correct about the name. Could not find it locally so I routed the rabbet into beveled 8".
