Hey all, my 14 year old son is a maker (and probably a future engineer)! He has begun working with me in the shop and helping 3D print accessories for me to help with projects. He has some really innovative designs that he would like to start producing to sell, but I encouraged him to start with a product people know. He started by making three varieties of bench dogs and is looking for feedback.

He has a standard 3D printed bench dog that can be used to support a workpiece off of the bench so you can make cuts without damaging you work bench. In addition, he also built a non-slip version that incorporates a grippy/rubbery top surface that keeps pieces from slipping. Unlike other versions out there, he prints his in a way that makes the dog considerably stronger. Finally, he also is making a pointed version that can hold work for finishing. Please check out his new Etsy shop here (get free shipping with this link). I told him this group would be helpful in providing feedback, so even if you’re not in the market he’d love to hear what you think!

Thanks for supporting him!

Good on him! That's really great to see a young bloke motivated to create like that.

Maybe also look at making depth gauges for the Domino's? They'd be quite popular I would think.

That would be good for developing his interest and skills in design and problem solving.

You can find something similar in the public domain (e.g., makerworld) for the benchdog spiked. You can check your other products or future designs whether they are already out there. I think there're at least three design libraries or sites like makerworld, featuring more than a million models on almost anything you can think of or not think of! (I recently became a 3D printer owner and came to know more about the topic.)
