New product CT wings - Video

Hi Everyone

Festool UK approached me a little while ago and asked me to take a look at a brand new product that attaches to an extractor and then clamps against a vertical surface - the result is a "3rd hand" to help when installing all sorts.

It is called CT Wings and has a page on the Festool Germany web site although the actual gadget is not shown in any picture (yet). It should be available in September but I know nothing about the NA market. UK price is less than £30 - I know no other pricing detail.

I had great fun making the video - I started off thinking it was a gimmick but by the end really respected the simplicity of the concept, the utility and the great price.

Let me preemptively say, no ETA or pricing currently for NA. But, hopefully in the near future we'll see them.

Edit: You cannot hook these in series. Only one per CT. Using the Y-adapter will not work either. Works with the 27 and 36mm hoses.

Just to add a little to Peter's video...

There are, as I recall, about 10 of the rubber-like fingers that rotate a full 360 degrees. You can use as many or as few as needed to hold the object in place. I think the max capacity was about 50mm, or ~2".

Oh, and there are center lines on top, bottom and sides for aligning it with a laser level on the wall.

The base on it does have a gasket already, but not as thick as the one Peter used to supplement it.

Thanks for the extra info Shane. That gasket that I made came from an old sleeping mat - it is probably not rubber but some sort of poly this or that. I did it to prove the point that improvisation can be a good thing - even with Festool kit.

Interesting - I can't see the video at all. Using Safari 7.0.3 on Mac OS 10.9.3. I have other machines and configurations that I will check later.

Can't wait to grab one or two.

It looked like the 36mm hose would block the valve release, good to know it'll work with it.

The 36mm hose will block the release valve, but I also did nog find a need to use the valve. Just pull it off the surface.

I suspect that the only time one needs to use the release valve is if the CT Wings are attached to a delicate surface - tiles and thin glass come to mind.

I think Kev may be right - time will tell.

For Seth, many other people have said that they wished Festool made a battery powered vacuum for last minute clean-ups (not to power with CT Wings).
