This was recommended to me by Gary Katz when we last had a Katz Road Show here @ The Tool Nut.

Protector gives the sleeve a slick, abrasion resistant surface.  This means no more getting caught up on guide rails or MFT edges.  Check it out

Gorilla Sleeve

But it's only available in black.  I just ordered a couple of days ago 40 feet from elsewhere, but selected Neon Green myself.  Just thought it would look snazzier on a Festool hose.

If you go to the TechFlex website, you will see that they make different products. The Gorilla Sleeving is only available in black and is a very heavy duty flat weeve covering designed to take extreme abuse as in semi-truck hoses and things that are dragged. Not the same product at all as the colored flex.
Edit-- It is nice that Sean is selling it in shorter lengths as it normally is sold in long rolls - 50 to 100 feet.

We chose the Gorilla because we knew it would last

Now I may have wished I would have waited.  I'll have to see how good the one I ordered is when it arrives.  Hope it's not Kleenex grade compared to the Gorilla brand/make.  [unsure]

Sean,

Would you be able to run a PlugIt cord under the sleeve?  I'm guessing it's the 1-1/4" size.

... and the BIGGER question, "will you be getting a larger size to fit the D36 with plugit?"  [tongue]

If it is similar to the one I'm getting, the 1 1/4 is suitable for contents from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches, so both hoses would be fine as in my case for my 27 and 36mm hoses.

If it's the 1-1/4" size, then it will only be able to handle up to 1-1/2".  The 1-3/4" sleeve can handle from 1-1/2" to 2".

Answers to two questions because I don't quite get how to quote and reply to two posts in one response here (hint, someone tell me how please!).

I thiiiiink there is enough space to run a plug it cord in the sleeve when using a 27mm hose.  I'll check in the AM when I'm back in the store.

As for fitting this particular 1-1/4" on the 36 mil hose...It's tough.  I popped off an end of a 36 mm hose today and was able to just squeeze the sleeve on, but it didn't want to go much further.  I'm sure you could wrestle the puppy all the way on, but it's a pain.

Corwin, I'll stock the 36 mm hose if I see a demand for it.  If you, like Corwin, would like a 36 mm sleeve, lemme know here in this thread and I'll bring it in.

Sean,

It looks like the Gorilla Sleeve would still catch on the thin veneered edge of a piece you're working on, breaking pieces of the veneer just like the hose does.  I would think that a smooth surface would be best to prevent that?

Ken, yes, technically there is still a minuscule edge that could catch a veneer as this isn't a fully enclosed wrap but a weave.  I still would think it'll be sufficient and wouldn't cause an issue, even with some veneers.

Sean,

Sometime I'd like to stop by with a cutoff from one of the veneered doors I recently modified/made and test that out.  Can't tell you how many times I wanted to hit myself in the head with the sander each time the hose pulled up a sliver and I thought I was being very careful (and it wouldn't happen again, and again, and again [crying] [mad]).

That's what I was thinking...

To make this post, I first pressed the 'quote' button to reply to USP's post, so his quoted text was placed for me.  I typed my response above and then scrolled down the page to your post and pressed the 'Insert Quote' button on the right-hand side.  Then I finished typing this before pressing the 'Post' button.  Hope this helps.   [smile]

Ken, feel free.  That'd be great.  Are you local?  Worst case scenario, we find it does grab the veneer and we'll go through the catalog and bring in a different style hose that is non braided for you.

A little too tight to fit the ends of the plug it cord.

Thanks for posting this. I have been looking for something like this.

I just placed an order for it.
