New tool day: TS 60 K + track

So, I've had a TS 55 for about 15 years now, it was my first Festool purchase, and I have always loved it.

I just upgraded to a 60.

Wow.

I was calibrating it and I made the first cut through 3/4 maple plywood. I thought something was wrong with the saw and that the blade didn't drop or wasn't attached correctly. It didn't sound or feel like it cut at all. There was absolutely no resistance. The motor didn't strain in the least. I really, really thought the blade didn't contact the wood.

But it DID cut, beautifully.

This saw is amazing.

I was literally speechless when I saw the cut.
My first cut was through melamine for a finishing panel in a laundry room.

Other than the noise I wasn’t familiar with, it did cut beautifully, I couple of “splinter, but it is Melamine after all.

I thought the motor would be a little quieter for a brushless, but not in a bad way, just what I was expecting.

I cut a sheet of melamine too, it cut like it wasn't there.

I'm seriously impressed.

I'm so hanging out for when the TS 60 comes on a promotion!

I have the very first model AT55 released around 1980 and it's very long in the tooth now!

I had absolutely no problems or issues with my TS55, but it's like driving a 15 year old car and then driving a brand new one with all the latest features.

I seriously can't believe the difference.

Sorry to act like a pusher.

I'm waiting for the release of the TSC 60.  [big grin]

That will replace the TSC 55 K which replaced the TSC 55 R which replaced the TS 55 EQ.

Don’t worry!

When I bought my RO150 and first sanded with it I didn’t understand how I could have sand with a dewalt 59$ orbital sander until then.

So I kinda understand the feeling. Also, I was coming from a 6-1/4in dewalt cordless circular saw. And the closest I was from a track was the kreg parallel jig I bought. It worked, but damn the track is nice!

I bought the original Rotex RO1E which was released around 1979 and I was always happy with it as it was pretty ground breaking back then, but after buying the RO90 last year it ruined me for the RO1E!

I thought if the RO90 is this sensational, how good is the new Rotex! So I sold the RO1E and recently got the new Rotex when on special, and man what a sander it is!

It is absolutely amazing, and even better than I could have hoped.

So I'm thinking my 40+ year old 55 will pale in comparison to the new 60K!

I’m with you. Hold out for the cordless model, otherwise it’s bot bringing much to the table except fsk compatibility

If and when it ever comes out, a TSC 60 would be a cordless version of the TS 60.  No such tool has been announced for release, but it is thought that it would be an eventual release some time down the road.

The person who mentioned getting a Rotex on special lives in Australia.  Outside of North America, Festool has different pricing agreements that may allow for sales and discounts from time to time.  This generally only applies in North America if a tool is discontinued or if a retailer terminates their reseller agreement with Festool.

Here in OZ Festool pricing is very tightly controlled by them, generally the only way you ever get a discount is if the store has stock and are closing down, as in the case with Just Tools last year, where they were selling Festool gear at 50% off a lot of the stock. I'm guessing there's some restrictions on being able to send stock back to Festool.

The Rotex I got on sale is a tool place that isn't closing so I don't honestly know how they were able to offer almost $200 off the $1300 price tag for the Rotex. Normally the best we'd get is a redemption offer for a Systainer for sandpaper worth about $140, so this discount was awesome, but probably the second time in close to 10 years I've seen such a thing here.

On very rare occasions we might get discontinued stuff like the connector sets 15-20% off, but rare as I said.

Oh yeah, I thought that the tsc60 wasn’t release announced yet, but wasn’t sure what it would be. Did really looked into the cordless option.

And it makes sense as for sale outside North America!

Oh ok! I’ll keep my eyes peeled if I’m ever in the market of a new tool to see if they have something going on.

But since I’m in the market once every blue moon, chances are slim! Haha!

Thanks

Strange, I just had a look at the Festool Canada site, and there aren't any permanent links to current promotions or redemptions like the OZ site has. Here Festool runs a promo for 2 months generally back to back,  with a months break inbetween sometimes. The redemptions are usually pretty lame, like a hoodie for the $1300 sander, etc, which given how we get ripped off generally compared to most of the world isn't great, but anything's better than nothing.

The larger cut depth is a big improvement too.
A lot of angled cuts are slightly too large for the TS55 (and HK55 for that matter).

You cut a lot without hose? I don't really get the obsession with cordless. Ultimately the charger still has a cord and if you cut a lot you need a ton of batteries and chargers. I get the feeling half the cordless users are in it for the hype, not for any practical reason.

I will second Coen on this .. as usual.
[smile]

I have just put my TSC 55 for sale and will be upgrading to a 2nd hand TS 55 R later in the year. (I want the riving knife).

Originally, I went with the TSC 55 so I can (ab)use it in place of a HKC 55 and since it has more power than the TS 55 R. Bad move.

In shop, the batteries (weight), the width, AND, most importantly the lack of a PlugIt socket making my hose-coupled PlugIt hang in the air are just a PITA.

On the outside, I have used the cordless capability of the TSC 55 twice. Yes. Twice. Once was as a HKC replacement, worked, but was far from ideal. Second time I was helping a friend cut one board, an activity I could have easily handled with an extension cord.

That said, I am keeping the dust bag from the TSC 55. There are instances when I do not have dust extraction. There are pretty much no instances when I do not have mains.

I will be getting the HKC 55 to go with the TS 55 R. As I should have done the first day.

I will also (likely) get a used HK85 (the older model with variable speed) for those jobs a TS 55 R just does not have it. But only likely as I already have the 2600W 380mm blade Protool saw for those big tasks ... with a 132T Leitz blade to boot
[big grin]

As usual, I am pretty much in agreement with Coen and mino.
The cordless model has no attraction for me. They are heavier in the first place, plus more bulky.
Since I still have my TS55, I have the riving knife issue covered, if needed. The TS60 has the electronic anti-kickback feature, which is helpful sometimes too. I especially like it when cutting loose laminate sheets as the riving knife can snag in that.
I never use either without a CT, since it is tethered there the cord doesn't add any resistance.
The narrow body of the TS60 doesn't overhang the track on the left side either, so it has no clearance issue with taller dogs.

As alltrackman78 said, the extra cut depth has its advantages too. That was my primary motivation to buy one in the first place. The other things were just a bonus to me.

That’s kinda what made me chose the cord version. I was like everytime I’ll cut, I’ll have the dust extractor connected to it. And I would need to go to the dust extractor, turn it on, go back to the saw, make my cut, go back to the DE, turn it off.

Not worth investing x amount of dollars more IMO.

Hey I’d take that 60-100$ hoodie when buying a tool for sure.

I plunge (track saw, plunge, see what I did there?!)  on the systainer outdoor limited edition, I purchased it for the colour way and because I wanted to have somewhere to put my sandpaper for my RO150. I don’t mind the two cups,  but the hat is not my style so much.

And yeah, we don’t get that much promotion! :(
