I have gone through the owners booklet to check that everything is setup correctly but don't see anything about the guide rail rubber strip adjustment.  It sticks out into the path of the blade now and I don't want to make a cut until I find out if this is normal.  Do you just make a cut along the rail to trim this strip?  Sort of nervous about messing up my new toy!

That's right!  you need to cut the strip with the saw.
That will be the exact line of cut to your saw.
I would put something under and take your time. Not too fast and not too slow.

Have fun with your new toy!!

Welcome to the Forum  [welcome].

Make sure that your saw is adjusted to the rails so that it doesn't move side to side, put something underneath (sacrificial) and cut.

As you get used to your saw, we're here.

Ray,

Have fun with your new toy and also as time wears on you can always buy a new rubber strip, clean off the old one and put on the new one.  not needed that often, but if lots of use sometimes it might be a good idea.

and once you cut the line it is exact! every time.  what is going to be your next festool?  lol ;D
