New Woodpeckers Adjustable Track Square

It's not a one time tool, which shows good judgement.

Woodpeckers just introduced an adjustable track square market.  It looks like a track square with a protractor leveraged from their miter gauges.

I've got the Festool square and the issue that I've had is that the angle adjustment can't take the torque of a long track/saw and moves around.  I've been waiting for TSO to come out with an adjustable track square for a couple of years.  (TSO hinted at it a while back, but seem to have been filling out their product line in other areas like parallel guides and dogs.  I can't believe that Woodpeckers beat them to market.)  So I'll be looking to see if the Woodpeckers version will do better at keeping the angle setting.  I'm guessing that if you have it set to one of the standard angles, you'll be OK because of the detents, but the little adjustment knob doesn't look very sturdy to me if you're not using it in tandem with a detent.

I'm interested in other observations on the product.  I might be tempted because I've been waiting on a good angle setting guide for a while.

It looks like it will be quite useful.  A combination of the Incra style detents and a sturdy square.  I see that they are not expected to ship until end of September 2019.  It's a little on the expensive side, but that is typical for items in this market.

Looks like Woodpeckers just introduced a new add on for track saw rails: Adjustable Track Square

Thoughts from the community?

Edit to add prices:

Adjustable Track Square in Systainer
Regular Price: $349.99
Intro price: $329.99

Quite clever incorporating the angles. But, I thought TSO had a patent on the clip attachment to the rail?

looks well made, like most Woodpeckers brand tools, and not an inferior copy, even if we inspired it.

Spurs us on to continue to innovate  and not rest on what we have accomplished so far [smile]

Looks nice, but $350 is obscene.
Just attach Incra miter gauge to the track. Same functionality for less $$.  [big grin]

Sounds like a good idea, would love to see some one execute that and post it 😀

Depending on which Inrca mitre gauge we're talking about, some people might consider the idea of having an Incra® Miter 3000SE Gauge obscene, too. [tongue]

You only need the protractor part with notches, handle, and notch lock, such as V120. You can get separate parts from them. Bar will have to be shop made. Notches will insure solid angle hold.

Oh. I did not think of just getting the parts; I thought your suggestion only worked for those who already own an Incra.

It is pricey for what it is, even by Woodpeck standards.

But repeatable accuracy to .0000001°  :-)

Might combine this thread with another on the same topic today.

$350 definitely isn’t cheap but if you really break it down it’s not all that terrible for what you get.
Compare it to the price of TSO products.

Woodpeckers
Adjustable track square in a Sys 1=$349.99 (currently $329.99 through 5/28/19)
Adjustable track square only=$269.99 (currently $249.99 through 5/28/19)
Sys 1 only=$109.99 (I’m making the assumption this includes the foam...I could be wrong)

TSO
GRS-16=$159.95
Sys 1 with foam insert=$105.95

TSO comes out to $265.90 and does not include the ability to make angled cuts.
Woodpeckers is $329.99 currently and can make angled cuts.

Basically you are paying $64.09 more for the ability to make repeatable angled cuts.

The price of the parts from Incra plus the time to modify the square wouldn’t be worth saving $64.09 to me. Of course I don’t know how well the square works or keeps its angles. That would be my big question. No matter how well the angle locks down I would think a clamp is needed on the far end to prevent the rail from flexing (Similar to how the Incra Miter 5000 uses an outboard fence support bracket to prevent the fence from flexing).

Hans and the TSO Team

I just wanted to take the time to say how nice it is to see a classy comment like this from TSO. In a world where companies are bad mouthing each other to get the upper hand it’s refreshing to see a company like TSO make positive remarks about their competitor and use their product as motivation to improve.

It speaks to the integrity of your team and to your commitment to making quality products.

Thanks :)
