New Woodpeckers One Time Tool

Yet another Woodpecker tool I'd like ... but their "one time" model just annoys the pants off me. There's quite a number of past tools I'd find valuable but can no longer get [mad]

Personally I think they need to get their act together and set up a regular production facility for ALL tools ongoing and stop this "one time" game. Tools are things you buy when you find a need for them ... they're not collectable "commemorative release" ornaments!

Sorry, just find this frustrating when you can see something that may be very useful, but realise you'd realistically need to buy at least two of every size if you don't already know every single job you need them for till the end of time!

Pricing way off in my opinion. 2 metal rods with removable tips that lock together for $290 for the whole package  ??? .... Not going there as much as I like the stuff.

from their standpoint, it is just too costly to stock certain type of specialty "tools" and in today's climate, it makes more sense to do it this way than not to.

plus, the limited ordering window creates a frenzied condition where common sense cannot coexist with the absolute and impending need to have the machined story stick and add it to the other invaluable anodized bits that have not left the shrine since you bought and hung them there.  like the machined router bit holder just in case you don't have a vise.  or the lumber gauge (leave your tape measure and calculator at home!)

i'm sure it's all been said before.  along with the flurry of responses:  "hey man, it's real simple, no need to complicate things: if you don't want it then don't buy it; just more for me...".  followed of course by the requisite sign off: just my 2 cents, or better yet:  in my HUMBLE opinion     ....yeah....

good stuff...frenzy on baby!

Check out the Lee Valley version for $69. Seems just as nice.
I own many Woodpeckers tools but this one is out of consideration.

I agree. Just because it's metal and shiny doesn't make it any more effective than a couple of wooden sticks and a pair of spring clamps.

FWIW I have several woodpeckers' products but this one doesn't interest me at all. And surely we can post the odd negative comment in the midst of all the gushing without being criticised for it?

I also have plenty of Woodpecker items and they are great. BUT.....These are silly expensive. Why in the world would anyone pay that much for those??

This one was $100 cheaper and dozens times prettier and 96" if you use all sections:

Pretty sure Woodpeckers grabbed onto the Bridge City one-time model, although red aluminum is less collectible to me than sculpted stainless steel  [cool]

It still comes up on eBay quite often for way less than $290.

Functionally, the Lee Valley one is awesome; I love the flat plates for doing outside-to-outside measures.  But then I haven't met many Lee Valley products I don't like...

Really interesting to see all your comments.  Mostly because these are "back by popular demand".  I don't believe many One Time Tool's come back around a second time, granted we've only been partnered with Woodpeckers at this level for less than a year, so my experience is limited.

Thoughts here that it's back?  Possibly stock from the previous launch.  Maybe feelings were the same back then, it under performed and they're now trying to move the last bit of stock?

Use these .$15 bar gauge heads instead of the spring clamps and you have something much more equivalent.

I sent an e-mail to Woodpeckers about their 26" square.  They responded that if I was interested to go to their website and they have a form you can fill out of the items you would like to see them bring back again.

yep, I filled that out a while back.

Note that there have been several instances already of them bringing back tools that have been asked for often.  Sometimes they enhance the offerings a bit the second time around.

I ignore the emails now.  I have a fundamental issue with the phrase "one time tool" and then seeing it released "twice" or more.

I couldn't agree with you more ,the phrase" one time tool "is more of a mind game .It to make you think ,if you don't buy it now you're not going to be able buy it later.I bought a couple of their tools because I thought they weren't going to make it anymore after it retired .

It's more like, if you don't buy it now, you MIGHT not be able to buy it later, at least not new from the company.  And it is somewhat arbitrary as to WHEN you will be able to do so, if you ever are.

This is a nice tool and all, and I do have several Woodpeckers pieces, but I think I can just as easily use a tape measure to do the squareness test... I could also build a gizmo like this using scraps.

Funny, I feel completely the opposite as you guys do.  I'm not on the email list so I don't know how many tools are offered as "one time tools" or how many come back to the market a second time.  I assume most of the items are only offered once, and the availability of the returning items are still very limited that you need to act fast if you want one.

Now, if you're the impulse buying type that buys things you don't really need, that's your fault.  If you buy a great product that you actually use what's the difference if they offer it again?

Don't get me wrong, I hate the economic climate that brings about these limited availability products.  We each need to decide if we'll support the companies that offer them.
