Newbie ready to drink the Green Kool-aid

If you cannot find the DF500 I would definitelly wait. It can do large tables with the 10mm bit just might have to do some double/tripple mortises but its fine. When I first got the DF500 I thought it was a bit heavy as I was not used to having a hand powered tool being that heavy (small tools that is). I also had the same result in late December looking for it all around. Even some Sherwin Williams store carry Festool (go figure). Anyways after some more digging found a sweet online retailer that had it. Might wanna give them a call first shopfestool.com

It's both exciting and frustrating trying to decide this stuff isn't it! Lead times seem the other way round in the UK - After all the agonies of indecision, building up a new small working space over the last couple of weeks, I had a sleepless night and said stuff it (or something along those lines), so have had both on order for a few days now ;) The 700 will apparently be here tomorrow, but the 500 is another week or so predicted. Axminster are not hinting at longer than that so I'm really hoping its not going to turn into a super long lead time, got stuff to do! Especially as I suspect that for me the work split between them will be 90% the 500, only 10% the 700, and mostly for outdoor stuff. It was a tough call going for both, but I don't think I will regret it. I plan for these tools to see me out..

You'll never be disappointed with the tools themselves. The beauty of Festool is the resale value. Should you someday decide that the 10% is not valuable enough to you, the DF700 will get you most of your money back.
