News from the Festool gossip factory...

Just found out from Rexy!  Can not believe I did not know about it already!   But I thought Fein just brought out a Cordless SUPER CUT  18V 2.4ah  BUT  they are bringing out a CORDLESS  MultiMaster!   14v 3.0ah!

The Cordless Super cut was a little to expensive for my liking!   BUT the Cordless Multi Master is more in my price range!   Rexy told me a price but I forgot he said hes getting them in shortly.  Any way here is a link I found so you can see some pictures of it as I can not find the MultiMaster on Feins official site.

Cordless Multi Master!

I was told the Cordless Multimaster with a fully charged battery lasts for 30mins constant under normal load!  Im struggling to believe da and would like proof lol!   BUT if this is true WOW that is very very impressive! I would properly sell my corded version lol as I would have no need for it as I dont think I have ever used my Fein cutting something for 30mins straight!

I love my Multimaster but only since I put a plug-it leads on it and store it in a systainer. The original lead didn't fit at all well in the Fein case and it was very often a reason for me not to get it out when I wanted to use it. It was a real pig to get back in the case. I'm not totally convinced about quality as mine burnt out within the first year and had to go back for a major repair (under warranty and as luck would have it I took it in for repair on the day the warranty ran out).

I'm sure Festool could improve it and I'm sure it would cost at least twice what the Fein does and the blades would be silly money. Let's wait and see.

Here's an easy "Free" solution to this dilema for he MM cord and many other cord storage solutions.  Just cut the tops and bottoms off of old plastic containers and use to slide the wrapped cords into.

I also like the use of those Cable Clamps you see laid on the lid as well, but they're not free, nor would they fit for the cord storage in the MM.

Alex,

It seems like you thought you needed the MultiMaster or SuperCut, so I'm guessing that these specialty tools were a necessity, yet you avoided purchasing one because of consumable cost?  How are you solving your job-related issues without those tools?

Ken, I always think I need a lot of stuff.  [smile] Even when I don't really need it.

Look, it's not really about necessity, but about making life comfortable. And comfort comes with a cost. Which, in the case of the MM or SC, comes at too high a cost for me. I could get the machine for a real bargain if I wanted to, but then shell out 27 euro for an average blade that will only last 30 minutes is just too crazy. As a pro you can put your consumables on the bill, as a hobbyist, you pay for it yourself.

As for substitutes on the job, I improvise with other tools. Hand saw, hacksaw blade, chissel, jigsaw, router, drill and the angle grinder can come in real handy too. After all, my labour comes at no cost so I can afford to take a bit longer.

Understood, Alex.

I can only speak for myself, but my Fein blades last me through a number of jobs unless I hit a nail of course.  I also try to use the MM only when no other tool can do the task or do it in a timely fashion.  That might be another reason for the blades lasting compared to others who might use the tool for many tasks just because it's readily available.

The only Fein blade that used to drive me nuts, constantly bending and screwing up the straightness of the cut was the half round flush cut/undercut blade, but the newer one that's a full circle with a cup mount seems to be a lot better.  I also had problems with the triangular sanding pad bending at the tips which kept me from sanding things flat, but that was all my fault for pushing on the tips too hard.  Too bad the triangular sanding pad has a soft aluminum backing plate instead of steel which would help prevent that problem.

H All, i have had the Fein mm for many years great bit of kit, then i got the Bosch 10.8v version (not good) liked the idea of the quick set up time with no lead, now i have the battery supercut, this things in a different league. I use this pretty much every day. I had trouble with the cost, but am very glad that i took the plunge, worth every penny. If Festool make one, it needs to be at least as good as this.
