hey guys, just about to pick up the OF2200 router and im thinking i need to get a larger hose for my mini, now im sure this has been asked a dozen times before and i have trawled the internet today trying to find the definative answer to my question but still i am unsure, i have read the benefits of the antistatic hose vs not but still cant make a decision, im looking to pick up a 36 or 50mm hose to use with the router, ts55, kapex and a few other tools.
I have noticed the that standard hoses are much cheaper so my question is this does anybody use the standard hose with these tools on the jobsite and if so do you get any issues, ie shocks and dust build up?
all my kit is 110v run from a transformer plugged into a 240v outlet.
im sure this is an old subject by now but just looking for some user experience on the job with the NON antistatic hoses festool, bosch or other.
cheers.

Can't speak for the routers..But, I use the Festool Non AS hose on the Kapex and couldn't be happier with the performance..I am glad I didn't spend extra for the AS hose for that application, it isn't necessary. And the Non AS Festool hose isn't as stiff and easier to deal with.

Unless you cut alot of vinyl material on the Kapex I see ZERO need for an AS hose. Conversely, I love the AS hose for all the sanding I do.

I have 2 of the Bosch hoses off of Amazon.  I really like em and they were around $30 I think.

thanks, i have read that the issues can arise if you have contact with the hose, i usually always hold my hose [embarassed] whilst cutting with the ts55 and i would imagine when routing i would be in contact with it also...

Hand't heard that...Whats the problem that can occur?

I have an anti-static hose connected to my planer, cyclone and shop vac and it shocks me every time I touch it. It's not so bad because the tools are stationary and I can avoid them, but I wouldn't use an anti-static hose on any portable tool if I could help it, particularly routers where you really don't want to be startled and jump.

great! thanks! thats what i was thinking, you certainly wouldnt want a shock whilst routing with that beast, thank you i guess i got to go anti-static then.

I got a 36mm hose not to long ago, non anti static. I use it on kapex, ts55r and of1400 fitting kitchens. I got it with the tradesman kit.
I've had no problems with shocks. Improvement on dust collection definitely and excellent for cleaning up with the kit.

I have a Midi with antistatic and 3 Fein Vacs that have no antistatic capability. I have Festool, Fein, and Bosch non-antistatic hoses. I don't see a need for the antistatic FOR ME. I think it depends more on your location more than anything.

Since our humidity never gets really low or really high and you don't need much heat in Southern California, there is rarely the super dry conditions to get static problems. I did have problems working in the high mountains in north Utah in Winter but that is "nosebleed dry" in Winter inside.

BTW, the inexpensive Bosch hose is called a 35mm hose but it is significantly smaller than the 36mm Festool hose and has the same end as a Festool 27mm hose except being made from a much inferior plastic. It is good deal but I would say it is well worth what it costs but a long, long way from being the equal to a Festool hose. I would consider it more to be a replacement for the 27mm Festool hose that works better in the 5 meter length. NOT what you want to use on a OF2200. It works well on my OF1100 in 5 meter length.

some great info there, well im in the U.K and its mostly wet and cold with maybe 2-3 months of warm-hot weather....i was looking at one of the cleaning sets which come with the 36mm hose, the antistatic kit is about £70 more with the professional cleaning head.

Ha, Ha, I worked in the Midlands one summer and what you call hot, we call Winter. Now if I had just been born somewhere in the middle..........

I bought that cleaning kit that comes with the 36mm non-antistatic hose and several ends in a Sys4. It made a bunch of sense when you added up the individual parts. I know pricing is different in the UK. The kits that came with the antistatic hose also had metal vac tubes, which didn't matter to me.

I guess the question is, do you have a problem with static inside your house or workshop with other things? My recollection of the UK is that it is really humid and you don't tend to heat your houses or shops to "warm". The typical humid and cold places in the US tend to heat their houses and shops too much. UK "room temperature" is usually just about right for red wine - 55 degrees F. It all depends on what conditions seem normal in your area.

Sorry I should have said I got the universal cleaning kit. It cost about £110 comes in a sys V. The wand is plastic, its seems abit flimsey but does the job. Don't use the sys, just sitting in my garage waiting to see what i can use it for or might sell it. I've got no more room in my van for anymore systainers  [eek]

Yeh I was thinking what I could put in the systainer if I go for the kit, maybe turn it into a tool box...

Mak, bit off topic but 60% of my work is kitchen installations both domestic and site work, do you use your mft much when fitting? Thanks sorry I deleted the systainer size question after I re-read your post

I do sometimes, if I'm working in a big enough space. Haven't used it on the job for a while though. A bit heavy to lift in and out of van. Use toughbuilt built trestles with 4x2 for big worktops and just cut on units with a scrap piece of board.

I've used the regular grey hose now for 4 years with chop saw, routers, plunges saw and general hoovering. Never had a shock from it

Check out the Orange Ridgid hose at HD.  Comes in a kit with the ends for less than $30, pretty sure it's about or near 36mm ID.  It's the equal and possibly better than the quality of the Festool 36mm hose.  Near as I can tell, the hose ends are just about the same.  Not in the same leaque as the cheapo black vac hose that comes with all of their shop vacs.  It's definitely of the same industrial quality with removable end caps as the Festool, Fein and Bosch hoses.

I had the 36mm Festool hose and got rid of it cause it offered nothing compared to the Ridgid version except color maybe, but considering the Festool hose was gray, that didn't match anything anyways.

HD also has a very nice quality Ridgid Stainless tube/floorsweep/vac accessory kit on clearance for about $37 - looks to be some nice quality stuff aside from trying to shoehorn it into a systainer...

I cut a D50 in half and bought two non anti static hose ends and have used them for miter saw, table saw, and router functions with no effect, Eric
