I hate those saws two guys I work with have them . Only good thing about them is that they're light and easy to carry. The pullout on them is rough and jerky and they tend to snatch. I prefer my ls1013 I suppose because the head is heavier you have more control and it doesn't snatch.

What is this "snatch" that you speak of?
Do you mean bind up, or catch when making a cut?

No Tim not binding what I mean is that because the head of the saw is so light it doesn't seem to be a controlled cut . The extra weight and better motor on the ls1013 feel much more controlled. You would have to use them both to understand what I'm talking about.

I have been considering the Makita too but I'm thinking of the version with the laser and light (LS0714FL)
Did you get the LS0714L with the laser. If so, what do you think of the laser?

How long are the Wings?  Looks to be 8 feet.

I'm building a set in the next few weeks a lot like yours.  Kreg rails, Kreg flip stops, holes for clamps along the entire length.  Same legs but without the hinge attachments.  I will use slots like Ron Paulk's miter stand.  Although I'm planning on building 4 foot wings that attach to one another and have the a Metric/English rule.

The Makita 7.5 inch saw is an excellent tool for the small shop needed a highly accurate SCMS.  The dust collection is amazing ( I have mine hooked up to a Fein Turbo II).  Once set up it is dead on accurate and stays that way.  If, on the other hand, you need to cut crown moulding on edge on a daily basis then get one of the larger saws.
