Nova Voyager - Aftermarket table

I purchased a Voyager yesterday tempted by Black Friday. There was a decent discount, along with a free Nova fence for the table. I have not seen any mention of the fence on the forum, and so am not sure whether there are any views of it ...

I've only just finished putting it all together, and not even plugged it in, so not much to offer about the drill. The fence has potential, but will need tweaking - I do not like the lever-clamp at the rear. It feels notchy.

Interestingly, all the pictures of the bare table - both the manufacturers and in forums - show the table reversed. Even the woodwork store from whom I purchased the Voyager had their demo with the table reversed .... it was not possible to use the fence the way these are set up.

[thumbs up] Congrats on your new toy.

The press drill is simply awesome. Quiet and very easy to use. The first thing you might want to learn is to set the zero depth on any and every piece of wood you want to bore.

My sister made me a hood to protect from dust. The motor vent is on the top

1) Power up the Voyager, depth will be at zero by default.

2) Install drill bit and put your stock under it

3) Pull down the quill until the bit hit the stock and press the Zero Confirm button

As you can see the table is mounted reversed. I find out easier to clamp stock since I don't have that fence. Another thing you might want to change is the chuck. I put a keyless chuck and never regret is  [big grin]

I don't plan to get the fence despite it is a well constructed fence. I'm in the planning of making a larger wood table with a low/high profile fence similar to

Thanks Mario.

I already have a keyless chuck - I used in on my previous drill press, and it slotted straight into the Voyager.

That's really nice Mario, your sister did a great job, even adding a window.

Would look great with Nova screen printed on the front.

Indeed she's awesome. She also made one for the iMac and the bandsaw

I purchased the fence when I bought my Voyager.  I found it difficult to use because the table slots, where the fence mounted to the table, varied in depth.  The variance meant I couldn’t just loosen the lever through the approximately 180 degrees of travel the locking levers have as they’re mounted behind the fence. You’d have to reposition the spring loaded levers to a new position and re-loosen them, (or the opposite for tightening), before you could slide the fence to its desired position. I was considering contacting Nova about the issue and considered taking to a machine shop to have the slot milled to a consistent thickness.

Ultimately, I just quit using it when I built my own table with the Woodpecker drill press fence hardware.

Now the fence just sits on a shelf. Anybody out there with a Voyager drill press want a great deal on the Voyager fence?  If so, PM me and maybe we can make a deal.
