I cusomize my tools by distressing them for the antique effect.  Splatter a little paint on it, drop it on the floor a few times, hit it with a hammer, etc.  Gives it a more "used" look.  "No honey, I've had this old thing forever!"

Lots of Luck to all of you!!  I am blessed to have an excellent, very helpful, practical and supportive wife.  I have learned to not even think of hiding anything from her -- it's simply not possible, at least not for any significant period of time.  If there was a contest to determine the best questioner to get at the bottom of whatever subject, she would likely be a winner.  Whenever she takes an interest in whatever subject, she quietly and softly starts asking questions which may seem a little off-base at first [particularly when she doesn't know much about the subject when she starts questioning].  But she quickly zeros in, and typcially within a few minutes the person who previously appeared to have all the answers is no longer able to provide the answer.  That would still be true even if Obama or any of his advisers were the subjects of her questioning, e.g. about their economic or foreign policies.  They'd soon be embarrassed, or speechless.  (It took me a lot longer to see the benefits of many Festool products than it did for her, and she is not and has never been a woodworker.)  So I'll have to wait for another contest with a different theme, like building furniture!  ;D

I think somewhere along the line, the theme of this contest was not communicated with the proper lightheartedness!

You don't literally have to hide things from your wife to participate in the contest.  It's about dreaming up some ideas, kind of pretending and having some fun with a "what if" scenario (in your case) or the real thing (in other people's cases), or a situation where we don't even know for sure!

If you take a look at the entries so far, we have creative ideas that are clearly not literally meant to be deceptive.  For example, look at this hilarious example posted by Enrico:

That's what I'm talking about!

The winning entry was Enrico's clever post explaining how to use a TS 55 plunge saw as a bread knife, a Domino as a duster, and an OF 1400 router as a mixer.  He showed brilliant ingenuity, and I am sure his spouse will be happy to share his Festool tools for various tasks around the house!
