Finished this just before Christmas. Had fun with the oversized ridge and scarf joints. Went together well. Got a rip blade for the sword saw which was helpful but blunted quickly. Doing a four bay similar size in douglas now with Oak front. Douglas us at least a bit lighter.[attachimg=1][attachimg=2]

Looks like that would have been heavy work.
Cracking job though.  [cool]

Wow, that must have taken quite a few hands to get those long beams in place.

I'm not an engineer, so I was just curious, is there a functional reason why all the corner braces are curved, as opposed to just being a straight diagonal, or is that just decorative?  Does it distribute the load better on the vertical supports, the way a Roman arch supposedly does?

Straight would actually be structurally stronger.  They are curved for decorative purposes only.

Nice job!

Love and hate oak frame work.  Love working with hit hate how heavy it is.

Curious whats attached to the bottom of the posts. They flare out.  I assume they are protection covers to protect the brick or stone work?

Gorgeous! Love the incorporated arches in the doors and ceiling. The rounded ends are beautiful! I hope you post more!

Looks great. Look forward  to seeing  the finished result.

How much would all  that oak cost?

Looks fantastic, would love one like that in my garden but think we could only fit in 3 bays. If you could knock one up for me next weekend that would be great  [smile]

Superb job, very very nice looking.
Also love the curved arches, how do you form these?
Cut outs from a bigger piece?
Can bend those thick pieces can you?

You dont normally bend gallow brackets.  They are often cut out of a wider piece.  Using a band saw or chain saw.

A truss Tie beam is more likely to be bent to create a curve depending on its size and length.
