Just thought I would pass this information in case some of your are interested. I have been on the hunt for a cordless sliding miter saw. I love not being tethered to cords especially for quick cuts and projects. The real only choice we have in the USA are the Makita 7 1/2" 18v sliding miter saw. I actually ordered it and wasn't very impressed and returned it. It was a very well built tool and would actually be perfect for cutting thin stock if your only doing trim work. What I think holds it back is the 2200 RPM which causes it to cut a lot slower and strain, especially in anything greater than 3/4". So In looking I stumbled across a new miter saw by Metabo. It runs off their 18v 5.2ah batteries and it has a blade RPM of 4200 and supposedly is directly comparable to a corded saw of similar size. Of course it is not released in the USA because all the most innovative tools start in the UK and often times never make it here like the cordless TS55. So I found a large tool company called "toolstop" that will actually ship tools to the USA for reasonable rates. I was not charged tax and the shipping of the saw was around $76. It claims it will get to the USA in 3 days. I am in no way affiliated with toolstop, I just wanted to pass the information of anyone else is also interested in something similar.

Here is the saws promo

Something similar to that is what I'm hoping Festool do with this rumoured 'mini kapex', i.e. runs off the 18V batteries. Add some of the kapex's selling points (no rails projecting at the back, large angle scales, etc.) and it'd be great.

Edit: Is it just me, or does that guy not know his left from his right?  [huh]

Hmm, so did you actually order it and receive it? I have a few NAINA Metabo items on my wishlist, I've been able to acquire some through a friend, but I hate to keep bothering him.

I just ordered it this morning. Im not to worried about it arriving as the tool store looks like a big distributer. I will do a follow up when I actually receive it and use it. The only downside is the lack of warranty but (knock on wood), but Metabo is a industrial tool company so I'm not worried.

Toolstop are great, used them several times for shipping to France over the last few years or so, never had any problems.

I've also had my eye on the Metabo 18v slider - but a cordless Kapex?... Yes please Festool!!!

Tool stop have being going for a very long time and are pretty well established. They were started in 1965 as noel kegg. The sons started toolstop as more an Internet based sales. At times they do have some pretty good deals

Nice, keep us updated!

I've ordered bicycle parts in the past from the UK, and they've gotten to me on the east coast, faster than packages shipped from the west coast.  [blink]

I've often used toolstop. They are a large reputable company. There's usually discount codes to be used if you are in the UK. Shame they don't sell Festool :(

I have purchase several NAINA items from Toolstop and always been very happy. The delivery from Scotland to Southern California has often been about the same as delivery from the Eastern US. The shipping can be a bit expensive on heavy items and the prices in Europe are generally much higher than the prices in the US. Toolstop shows you the price in the US and shows it with no VAT so they really have their act together. Just bear in mind that you are generally going to pay a lot more than you will if that item ever makes it to the US. Some of the items I previously bought now show "not available to be shipped to that destination" so don't assume you can get everything.

The first item I bought was a bare tool Makita LXT Chainsaw way, way before they were available in the US and it arrived in 3 days from 1/3 of the way around the world!

Oh, and I'm still using my US Bosch 24v Cordless Miter Saw for the items that require cordless. Now if I can just modify it to use Bosch 36v batteries.................

I received the Metabo 18v sliding miter saw. I ordered it from ToolStop late Friday, it was processed on Monday, and it arrived on my front porch on Wednesday from Scottland to Southern California. I am in shock on how fast it arrived. I could not be happier with the saw. It crosscuts 12" with a depth of 2.5" and the blade RPM is 4200 which gives it power comparable to a similar sized corded miter saw. I ordered it as a bare tool and ordered a Metabo Brushless Hammer Drill from amazon because it came with 2-5.2ah batteries and a charger and was essentially the same price as ordering 2 batteries and a charger by itself. I am actually very happy with the drill also. It is very Festool like with a detachable chuck to make it shorter and I can order a right angle chuck. It also has over 700lbs of torque with an electronic clutch also. Now I'm thinking of ordering the impact driver and eventually getting the CSX so that I have my powerful needs covered as well as my more everyday drilling needs with the CSX. I took some pictures and a couple videos of the miter saw cutting. I cut through 3/4" plywood, a 2x4, and 4/4 hickory with ease.

as soon as I figure out how to convert the img video to one that this website recognizes I will upload the videos.

MarcV,
Nice looking saw and great buy on the drill!

In the saw picture, it looks like there are some multi-color parts organizers in the background.  I was curious to know who makes them and where they are available.

Thanks, Mike A.

Nice!

I have the non-hammer drill version of that tool. Metabo's hammer function adds more than an inch to the overall length of the drill in the quick chuck version for whatever reason, the non-quick chuck hammerdrill is the same length as the non-hammer. No idea what's going on there.

I also picked up the quick chuck and the right angle chuck as well.

Any update on how you are getting on with the saw.
Any one else got or used one of these? How does it compare to other mitre saws that you've used?

Thanks

Mike A: Those multi color parts bins in the back are made by bosch. They are drawers made to fit in their comparable Lboxx or can be carried by themselves. Here is the link:http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-i-Boxx72-10-Click-Storage-System/dp/B00BD5G622/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1426900843&sr=8-3&keywords=bosch+lboxx+drawer

DB10: Just an update on the saw. After using it for a few weeks I love it. It weighs only about 28lbs and is really compact but can crosscut 12". It have plenty of power for 95% of what I do. It cuts through 2x12's and 4/4 hardwood with ease and actually is able to capture a fair amount of dust in the bag. It is night and day compared to the makita cordless miter saw. This one feels more like a corded saw and with the 5.2 ah batteries it cuts forever.  I would definitely buy it again.

Thanks for the update MarcV, been looking for a good quality cordless mitre saw for quiet a while now. There aren't too many to choose from and I've had my eye on the Metabo for a while. They are on deal here at the moment, so I'm going to pick one up.

They don't handle Festool.... Too bad! [crying]

Cheers,

I have ordered several tools from Europe and the UK without any problems and shipping is very fast albeit more than shipping within the US, but with the excellent exchange rate it evens out.
