OE blade corrosion protecting coating

Hello,

Got a new TS55 last night.  Was checking it out, and got some thick substance in my fingers, off the blade.

Rubbed it a bit more, I actually like this stuff - good consistency, but no coloration, still has some flow (not waxy), etc.

I sure it will burn off the first or second time I use the tool.  But I think this stuff would be useful for other things too.

Any idea what the protective thick oily coating on OE blades is?

Thanks!

You've stumped us. I've asked several people in the office -- including the service department -- and no one seems to know. I'll keep digging. Now I'm really curious myself!

I think it used to be call cosmolene? My spelling may be off though. If you want something similar, go to an auto parts or marine store and get some Marine Fogging Fluid. I sprayed a set of cylinder heads 6-7 years ago, and still no rust

No smell that I can tell.

Cosmoline in my experience dries somewhat hard. It needs a solvent to be removed... Not oily or waxy.

This stuff is clear, thicker than a thick oil but more workable than a wax.

I did have a wurth spray wax product one time that had a similar consistency, I think...

There are all kinds of spray wax coatings out there, but, usually they have a bit of color at a minimum to them, like amber or a touch of yellow.  Interesting, wonder if it's something industrial that's new.  [blink]
