As a former owner of the now “old” OF 1010, and a present owner of a new OF 1010 R
It’s small increments in development is nice to have, but not revolutionary. Better access to bit exchange, easier hose connection and somewhat better depth control adjustment makes for good changes.
As Paul_HKI and Shane mentions are the always power on trigger that most tools have had is now gone. But not quite: You may lock the power on with the locking pin/button as before.
The difference is: When the power cord is (properly!) connected via a NVR switch it will not power on again after a power brake without resetting the switch on the tool itself.
That said, I’ve tested it briefly; it’ll hold the power when power is briefly interrupted (a very few seconds). But longer power interruptions leaves the integrated timer to interrupt power on again. In these cases one will have to release the trigger (from the locked position) and then engage power on with the tool switch.
This means it’s still usable for a router table coupled to a remote, table mounted NVR switch (between the wall socket and tool plug) However, to engage power after shutting off power with the remote NVR switch you’ll need to reach under the table to start the tool again. Power off will still be possible with the remote switch.
To me, the OF 1010 (R) is mainly a handheld router, and a near perfect one too. And this is where it will mostly be used, also on a guide rail.
Therefore the occasional use in a router table with its non “power on by remote switch” is not a big drawback to me. Safety wise coupled to a remote NVR switch you have the most important aspect: To shut it off with a close at hand switch.
