Well, the subject pretty much says it all, but my main use for a router right now would be cutting dado grooves in 3/4" (or should I say 19mm?) melamine for "3/4"" melamine.

Would it be able to handle that? Of course, I do already have a 1/2" shank bit sized for that (can't recall the exact fraction off the top of my head), but I could always return it and put the money towards an 8mm version since the 1010 can't handle 1/2" bits.

You can tell how much woodworking I'm doing now, eh? :)

Thanks,
Jason

I think it will work fine as long as you are using particle board core melamine and not mdf (It would even work with MDF for occasional use).  Particle board tools pretty easy since it's full of voids and it not that dense.  MDF however will cause a machine to work pretty hard and would cause overheating issues with extended use and cutting.  The Festool products do however have protection built in to keep you from burning them up but the harder you use them the shorter the life (any machine).  I'd go ahead and use the 1010 if I were you...

Thanks for the advice, Chris. My local Home Despot carries MDF melamine, so it looks like I'd better go for the big brother just to be on the safe side.

Jason,

You should check and see if there is a Hardware/cabinet  supplier nearby. They will have a better quality mel. I have to drive 150 miles to the nearest dealer, also the only Festool distributor. They beat the box stores on price and quality. I am about ready to build cabs for my wife. I will somehow get my mel . from them.
Tom, in Alaska. btw I saw the Domino today up there today . I hope to put off building the cabs until I can get one.
