Thinking of purchasing an OF 1010 router soon.  Any suggestions of accessories that present users are fond of?    The parallel fence seems a bit on the flimsy side.  Do any of the fences from the 1400 or the 700 work on the 1010?

I would appreciate any feedback that anyone has to offer about the 1010.

Thank you

If you can still get them in the USA, I'd get the edging accessories:

They are the reason I got the OF 1010 (I already have an OF 1400, but it's too heavy for this application).

I should have mentioned that I own the 1400 and the 700.  Obviously I use the 700 for trimming and edging.  And the 1400 takes care of a lot of my routing needs.  I love the 1400, I have a few accessories for it and it does cover moist routing needs.  It’s just a bit heavy and large for some tasks and this is why I’m considering the 1010.  I have an older Dewalt mid size router that I have hated since the day I purchased it.  I never use it, the design of the base and just everything about it I hate.    When I got the 1400 last yr I started using it for everything.  A friend turned me onto the 1010 and it’s small size but there just doesn’t seem to be as many accessories as the 1400 has and they seem flimsy.

So the micro fence is the ticket????

I really like the OF1010, its my go-to. I use it for profiling edges, flush trimming, mortising, etc. For accessories i have the guide stop for use with the guide rails, and the edge guide (fence). I also have a cheap zet of brass guide bushings that works well with the provided base.

The guide stop works great but the edge guide is terrible. It has no dust port so you have to use the regular connection point on the router which doesnt work very well with the fence. Add to that u have to buy the micro adjuster and a dust "guard" seperately. By the time youre done you have a fence that costs twice as much as a dewalt or bosch and isnt nearly as good. I would say dont buy it... but true to form festool made the rod sizes and spacings proprietary so i havent found another fence that will fit this router.

My only other complaint about the router itself is that the base attachments like the swiveling dust guard are not quick-connect like the of1400. They use 2 tiny screws which can be cumbersome at times as im constantly taking it off and on.

These issues aside its a great tool for me because it covers most of the tasks i used to split between 2 routers. Its light enough to do 1 handed edge profiling and trimming, yet versatile enough for various plunging tasks. Add a guide rail to the mix and its even more versatile.

I have the MFK 700, OF 1010 & 1400. The 1010 is the first one I pick up because it is so versatile and light. Don't purchase the Festool edge guide for the 1010...it's tragic. Spend the extra $$ for the Micro Fence edge guide, it's available with an imperial or metric lead screw.

The Micro Fence edge guide can also be used on your other two Festool routers or for that matter just about any router with the purchase of the correct $40 interface kit. It's a pleasure to use. If you want to move the router bit over .012", just loosen the knob, dial in .012" and retighten the knob. There's maybe .0015"-.002" backlash in the dial adjuster. [big grin]

Fellows the info you have provided will be very useful.  Thank you.  I will be doing some reading about the MicroFence

You have to wonder why FESTOOL does not provide the same type dust collection for the OF 1010 as they do for the 1400?  Or the snap in type base plate?

Thank you all

If you purchase the OF 1010, be careful when exchanging bases or copy rings. There have been a few examples on the FOG where continually over tightening the screws will eventually strip them out. Snug the screws only, don't crank them down. [smile]

I've actually been thinking of locating and using nylon screws for this router as the nylon would be vibration resistant while also preventing premature failure of the tapped holes.

I have the 700, 1010 and 1400 and have a love/hate relationship with the 1010 for these reasons.

It's pros are very obvious.  It's cons are obvious when you use it: it's missing the bells and whistles of the 1400 and 2200 (while it's the router of the stable that would benefit from them the most).

Despite not having a ratcheting mechanism, it's the one that has awful clearance for wrenching the collet.    Despite the fact that it's the router that will do most of your edge treatment duties, it's the only one without a screwless chip catcher.

At least it doesn't plunge the collet past the base (I learned that about the 1400 the hard way).

Get the Micro-Fence as others have said. Beatiful guide. If you can still find a large base I find it hand to help stabilize the router for edge work. Of course, the LR32 plate if you want to use it for drilling holes. It is the router I use most.

Yea the Micro Fence really is the nicest option out there and being thats its universal it can be used with almost any router once the mounting adapter has been purchased. The only thing you lose is any dust collection the stock fence might offer.

Funny you mention the large base.  I don’t know about all of you but it seems that the websites of almost any Festool dealer or the USA Festool site are a bit lacking and confusing to navigate for what accessories that are available.  If you want a guide bushing there are plenty but info for as you mentioned the large base I could not find.  It seems I remember there being more options for this router years ago with regards to base plates and such.  I may be confusing this with one of the other routers.

When I buy a tool I like to research it enough to understand what options are out there to make an educated decision.  Sometimes I’ve found that it’s better to find an older version that was well cared for.

Is it an option to buy other off set bases and use them with this router?

Thank you for you opinion

Edit.    After looking in the Festool 2017 catalog I see a few other bases available which is nice to know.  So I’ve cleared up what exactly is available.

You are not confused, the catalog omits a bunch of router accessories for whatever reason.

The edge trimming attachments are nowhere to be seen (despite being a massive selling point).

Interestingly enough, the 1010 edge trimming attachments are also not visible on the Festool website, unless you search for them using the correct part number.  [huh]

However, if you don't know the correct part number, you won't be able to find them. I guess the good new is that they're still available...for now.

Let's be honest though, a 2" long flush trim bit is a lot cheaper and mine doesn't fit
in an of1010.  :D. And would you know it?: the of1400 chip guard fits around my flush trim bit, and you don't need a screwdriver to put it on! :0

The edge attachment will help prevent from tipping over, though.
Not that I would know anything about that.  This ramble has nothing
to do with tomorrow's store run for epoxy. :D
