OF 1400 and UJK router elevator - a bad match?

Hi guys!

I REALLY want to get myself a routertable, but can't really afford it right now. I only have one router (OF1400), and until I can afford an other dedicated for table use, it will have to be used both in the router table and hand held. My "tool philosophy" involves always waiting untill I can afford quality tools that I won't want to replace.

I'm thinking of buying a ujk router elevator to use with my OF 1400, mounted in a piece of plywood as a temporary solution and make a custom fence, mitre slots etc. for. Does anyone know if the 1400 fits well in the ujk router elevator? The handle and locking knob seemes to be in the way, and does the holes in the mounting plate line up? I have no experience with a router table - do you guys think this is a ok temporary solution?

It seems Peter Parfit already has answered most of my quesions in his youtube video "Questions and Answers - Session 3". The OF1400 and the UJK is a bad match, so I'l try to find an other solution. If any moderator reads you can delete this topic.

The triton looks head to beat with the elevator being built in, and the cost being relatively low. And the 1400 seems handy for hand work.

Having seen your question, I was just scanning through Peter's videos for that: it couldn't remember which router he used in his UJK table/elevator review.
I would think this is a sufficiently useful question to leave here.

I have two UJK router lifts both of which are on their Cast Iron Tops and im very pleased with them, no issues so far and very smooth operation.

I also own a OF1400 router but this is used in the shop, I think from memory that I did try once to see if it fitted in the lift but unfortunately I don't think that it did, I remember offering it up to the lift but I cannot remember why it didn't fit, sorry. [unsure]

I use DeWalts 625ek in the tables, exactly the same motor as the Trend T11, I use collet extensions so the smaller aperture in base of the DeWalt is not an issue. These routers retail for about £240.00 plus vat at the moment so not to bad really.

Umm, yeah, no reason to delete this. Good information here.

The proprietary configuration of the Festool routers means they don't fit with any other manufacturer's router lifts -- only in the CMS.  I can't remember is anyone on the FOG has ever attempted to replicate this, but Guido Henn has produced a video/set of plans for a shop made router table and lift mechanism in which he places the 1400, so you might want to give that a try:

I might hold out for a more powerful table mounted router though.  Not that the 1400 lacks power, but if you wanted to do panel raising or similar large diameter bit work it helps to have a 3.25+ HP router as well as the necessary clearance in the base for the large diameter bits.  I like the Triton TRA001, both for its power and above the table adjustment capabilities.

Yes, the OF1400 (which I have) paired with the UJK Router Lift is a definite nono!

In February 2025, I bought a Sauter OFL1.0 which is cheaper (and better in my opinion) than the UJK Router Lift, even when you pay c£75 Import Tax.

Quite the old thread, but since it's back to the top, it might help someone.

I agree 100% with ear3's assessment. It is very hard to beat the TRA001 for router table use. The ergonomics/form factor are ideal for it, no lift required. It also has above the table bit changes, with only one wrench. The only negative I see, is the wrench itself. Years ago, they were "real" forged wrenches. Now, just stamped steel. I found a proper DIN894 wrench, but a regular combination wrench works too. (24mm)
