I have seen many thread whether the OF-1400 should be under a table or not.  I believe most agree that it is not the best application.  I wouldn't disagree, but budget limits me to only one router.  Until I get another router, I would like to be able to use the OF-1400 handheld or under a table.  Has anyone find a commercial or shop built setup to mount a OF-1400 on a router table?  I would think that Veritas' insert plate would work.  Please weigh in.

Thanks in advance.

I think any removable plate would work ok if you are willing to pull the router each time to make adjustments...

I am not familiar with the Veritas plate you referenced.  However, If the plate is drilled to accept the Festool router's bolt pattern, or if you can drill it accurately yourself, then it would work.  I have not heard of a plate that is factory drilled for a Festool router.  If you plan to use bushings with the router in the table, then it is critical to get the router mounted so that the center of the bit is aligned with the center of the hole in the plate.  Sounds easier than it really is.

I think you'll spend more money trying to get the of1400 in a router table than you would getting another router.  And it will be more trouble to change bits and change height.  The simplest small router table set, up in my opinion, is a bosch 1617evs with two bases. $199.00.  Use the fixed base in the table attached to the router plate that goes with your table and the router is easy to adjust up and down without removing anything.  Just release the lock, dial up or down and relock.  You don't need a lift with this set up.  To change bits, just drop the router motor out of the base, change bits and replace.  The router plate does not have to be removed.  Or you can drop the router motor out and use it in the plunge base for hand routing.  To save money, maybe you can get the 1617evs in the fixed base only but probably it isn't much cheaper than the combo.  I have the of1400 but I use this setup often because it is quick and easy to set up.

Jesus,

You might also check out the Freud and Triton offerings.  Both offer 2 1/4 HP (12-13A at 120VAC) and 3 HP (15A at 120 VAC) rated routers that are designed with inverted use in a table in mind among their other features.  I have both a OF 1400 and a Freud 1700 router.  The Freud is mounted to a router plate and normally sits in my router table.  This Freud model comes variable speed and soft-start and with both 1/4" and 1/2" collets and an above-table height adjustment tool and a plastic dust collector shroud which is a bit of a nuisance to install but works decently in table use.  The shaft automatically locks when the motor shaft/collet is extended into the base making for easy one-hand wrenching.  There is a quick release button that disengages the lift screw which enables rapid raising or lowering of the motor including locking and unlocking the shaft for bit changes.  Festool's 27 mm and 36 mm hoses fit directly to the nipple of the dust collector shroud as does the standard hose supplied with a Fein Turbo II vac.  Two years ago I paid US$150 for this Freud which also included a coupon for a free plunge base.  I also have a PC 7518 router mounted in a table but find that I use the Freud much more often due to its convenience features.  The 1400 is used freehand and with edge guides and on the guide rails.
