Hello,

First post.

I was wondering what would be a better investment, OF 1400 router or the Domino DF 500?

Background, use the Bosch Colt for round overs mainly. The projects I build I mainly use pocket screws.

Right now I am working on refinishing / rebuilding some benches and tables that have been abused.

Will be getting into building a few bookshelf sand a tv stand down the road.

All feedback is welcome.

If I. The wrong place, I am sorry and please feel free to move it to the right place.

Jeff,

Welcome to the forum. I did move your post to the general part of the forum so you can get more feedback from our forum members.

Just based on your very short description of what you do, the Domino sounds like it would be the better choice.

Let's see what others have to say...

Hi Jim,

  Welcome to the forum!  [smile]

Depends a bit on what other tools you have. Since you have the Colt router and a pocket hole set up. I would say probably the Domino. But what else do you have , tool wise?

Seth

Thank you Shane.

To answer your question Seth,

In the shop, table saw, miter saw, drill press, planer, joiner, jigsaw, biscuit joiner, band saw, not festool.

Festool ; TS 75, C12, RO90, ETS150/3, CT26,

Jeff

It looks like the Colt is your only router.  If that is the case, I would go for the versatility of a plunge router before the Domino.  You already have a biscuit joiner and some version of a pocket hole jig.  These can cover a lot of what the Domino can do (I'm not saying they are equivalent, but they can get you by).  I'd be lost without a good plunge router for freehand work, and the same router can also generally be used upside down in even a simple table with a straightedge for a fence.

The Domino is a game changer! It has totally changed how I plan and execute projects. I've used my biscuit machine once in the several years I've owned the Domino. I also own the 1400 and it is a very nice router, but it isn't a game changer as is the Domino.

If you decide on a Domino, handle both the 500 and the 700. If you buy the 500, definitely get the Domiplate accessory.
