They obviously designed it to work this way, but I wonder why?
The bottom of the OF 1400 has that one flat edge, where the adjustable foot fits. This means that the original phenolic base plate has a non-symmetrical bolt pattern, but the table widener does. Because of that, you can mount it either way. The first few times I used it, I put the off-set part under the trigger handle. Earlier this week, I decided to reverse it, putting the off-set under the locking knob.
As a left-handed user, this was game-changing. In the past, I really only used it because of the larger chip deflector, but when the larger part is riding on the surface, everything just feels so much more stable.
I doubt that left-handedness was the motivation of the design. How would this benefit a righty?
