Hello new member, I've had an OF 1400 for a year and a half and been very pleased with dust collection overall. In last two weeks  I cut 3/4 wide 1/2 deep dados in mdf, all the dust shot out the slot, even with multiple passes. Then cutting 3/8 wide 1/2 deep slots in the end of maple table top, wood chips everywhere. Bag was empty, kept turning chip catcher to try to deflect chips up instead of out but didn't help. Have routed large contours in hardwood before with great results. Any suggestions? Thanks. Tony

When your routing start in the panel a few mm leaving a wall so the dust can't shoot out. It wiil not get all the dust but will help.

Fast foward to 3:00 he explains it.

Seeing as you're routing a captured groove, try changing the direction of travel of the router.

What kind of bits are you using?

I use up cut spiral bits for dados and get fantastic dust collection.

A larger opening in the base plate also helps. If the opening in the plate is real close to the bit it restricts the flow of the spoilage to the CT.

Thanks for the responses, used a 3/4 straight bit for dados with guide rail, ran router in both directions. Starting mdf cabinets on site, will try some suggestions.

Without using an upcut but it is hard to capture all of the dust. I've done lots of grooves with my 1400 and tracks. There is always trapped debris in the groove if you do not use a bit designed to clear it all the way. However, for scientific purposes try making that groove without collection and see the tremendous amount of dust you make and you will be thankful you are getting 80% of the shrapnel.
