Hi,

Just picked up a new OF2200 to replace my OF1400. I've not had chance to use it yet, just a quick play but I notice that the copying ring has movement! The router will be used for doing worktop joints and needs to be perfect as this is what I've come to expect from Festool. I'm not sure if it's just this particular router that has this problem or all OF2200's. Any of you guys with this router could you tell me if your copying ring has sideway movement. This one has play of about 1mm from left to right!

Also the trigger isn't what I expected. When depressed and the lock pushed in it sometimes locks up and won't release. Scary!!! I had a similar problem with my carvex so using the same solution I've given it a quick spray of WD40 (spoke to the retailer first) which has helped a bit but I'll have to keep an eye on that and send it back for sure if that doesn't get any better next week.

So does your copying ring have movement?

Cheers guys

My ring is pretty solid. And I have had no issues with the power button.

I've seen roadkilleds router today and can confirm it moves, we tried mine and same think. I phoned jmb and he confirmed the same.

They are about £560 no buf none the less id expect a tighter fit. The makita click in guide bushes suffer the same problem

Yep me and Dean have know each other a while. He's a top lad and a special thank you for your help today.

So does the movement mean mine isn't faulty? And this is normal. After I spoke to Dean I checked out my OF1400 and there is some movement it the ring on that too but not as much as the 2200. I never noticed or thought to check!

It still might go back for the trigger issue tho. Two applications of wd40 and it's better but not perfect. I'll see what happens on Monday after a day at work.

Thanks again Dean. I'll wait for the guys call :thumb:

Yeah that trigger wasn't good. Last thing you want with a cutter spinning away not able to turn it off

Yeah when I bought mine I wasn't happy with the slight movement in the  copying  ring  but after using it I found out it doesn't mater/affect anything.

Because the distance from the edge of the copying ring to the cutter stays the same all round

So if you are running along a template it makes no difference that it has movement the only time it would ever affect you....

let's say is if you had made a 30mm slot for a 30mmm copying ring you will have little play and it will affect your end results just like if you was using it to plunge holes using a jig with a hole

but from Experience I found making a slot to fit your copying ring is a bad idea.  Always best to make templates so your copying has play so you run along one edge only.  So in theory if you had 3-4-5mm play in your copying ring as long as the distance between cuter and edge of your copying ring remains the same which ever way you run your router the bit of play won't effect you

That make a lot of sense mate thank you. Got some 40mm oak to route on Monday so I'll give it a go.

Cheers everyone
