OF2200 , OF 2200 Features

Hi,

        Any thoughts on the new  features?  They look great to me.  Of course no one has one yet but that won't keep us from talking about it 

                        I especially like the quick change base idea. I think it inherently upgrades other features that are on the OF1400 besides just being quick change.  The copy rings can be tight fitting but still quick change. The offset for the guide rail is much better than  the foot (maybe Daviddubya gave them this idea )

         What do the rest of you like / dislike?

No question the features are good.  I like that part.  The thing I can't quite get adjusted to is the presumed price.  The dollar is in the tank, I know, but still, eight hundred dollars for a router?

As far as the features, that drop down dust/chip shield thingy and the dust collection system seems to be very cool.  The quick change bases and template rings are a thing of genius too.

I have just entered pricing for the OF 2200 Accessories.  I am still looking for some pics, but at least there is pricing on the page so you can weigh the value of purchasing in the kit or individually the templates you may need.

I am curious as to that one as well.  There is an extra guide with the mm set but I can't fig'r out the other $72.00.  Perhaps Shane can shed some light?  Otherwise, I am all over it.

I'm not Timmy, but I see that the imperial set includes four template guides, 1/2", 3/4", 1" and 1-3/8"  while the metric set has five metric guides a 17, 24, 27, 30, and 40mm. It seems like there ought to be more of a difference for the money.

        I was kinda hoping starting this thread would lead to discussion of the tool itself rather than the price which is already being covered in about three other threads.    :-X

        What does the green lever on the bottom of the depth rod do?  Is that the 2mm offset?  How does it work?

From a dealer standpoint it is going to be fun learning about these tools first hand.  I currently have perhaps just a tad bit more info than (as they say in the south sometimes,) y'all.  I will do my best to expedite any information that comes forth!!!  I am hoping to get more pictures, and perhaps get my hands on some manuals that I can post.

There is a ton of what I call "anticipatory anxiety" regarding these tools.  They all look super to me! 

In answer to the green lever, I think you are right Seth.  It looks like it has an offset stop on the rod.  Festool has put so much thought into the ergonomics of this router, my guess is why not actuate the feature with a small movement of the thumb.  Run the initial pass, move the lever and pass it again without resetting the depth/and having to turn off the router to do it....it just makes sense to me.

Seth, your assumption is correct.  It's for the 2mm offset feature.  The lever rotates the rod into a position where it bypasses the stop turret and can drop down to the 2mm offset position.  There is a notch in the depth stop.  You can see it in action (briefly) on the micro site about 30 seconds into the video.

Regarding the question on the pricing of the Metric Base Acc. Kit, I do not set pricing so I can only speculate.  We are expecting more people to purchase the Imperial so supply and demand may be a factor plus as someone said the additional template guide in the metric version.

the  foam is now used in ts 75 saw case. at least in mine.....that sucks if there is no introductory offer....that takes the sting out of forking over a couple of grand....kind of.......................sort of. boy, price increase and no introductory offers...............i guess once the dealer has hooked his addicts; there is no reason to worry. :-\

Unfortunately, dealers don't make the rules.  We have very stringent guidelines to follow.  If it were up to me, I would like to offer promotional pricing.  Although I certainly can't speak for the other dealers on this board, I would imagine they too would like to offer promotional pricing.
