My relativly new f2200 is scratching the surface of compact laminate when i am putting a round over on it. I cleaned the material and the router several times but no luck. I also tried sand all the sharp edges of the base but it still scratches. Any ideas

Had a similar issue with my 1010 when working on solid surface.  I polished the base but did not eliminate the problem so I replaced the fiber base.  Problem solved.  I kept the old plate and use it when I'm working on suspect stock.

Clamp something sacrificial between the router and the material and lower the bit.

Is it a consistent pattern or more like trapped debris from the top you're cutting?

I've always been surprised that you get router bits with bearings, but you always drag a flat base along the working surface. It'd be nice to see an optional base with rollers.

That's a bit worrying.  I have a brand new one & not tried it on anything with a finished surface yet.  Thanks for the heads up, I will have a dummy run on a scrap piece before I commit to something expensive.

I had the same issue with my 1010 scratching prefinished maple.  Did you replace the base with a Fes base or did you make your own?

well spoke to festool and they basically said the base must have been scratched to do that even tho the only thing i have done with it is use it in the cms so no base. Lot of use they were. Ptfe film it is then

I'll check mine out this weekend I currently have it set up in my CMS for these wardrobes I'm building which you helped me on for a day Deano!.

My base looks like I have attacked it with a stanley knife and so I'll be expecting it to do some damage to a prefinished surface but we will see! I normally have yay router in a CMS or on my worksop jig or a template  so the base never touches prefinished surfaces!

After a few scratches on P-lam with my 1010, It really makes me wonder what the "fiber" in the base is made of. Maybe glass?
I never seem to have the problem with the black stuff the Porter Cable uses.

The only trouble with anything soft is that a sharp particle can lodge in it and cause lots of misery.
