OFK500Q

Hi All
Just purchased a OFK500Q
And my first thoughts are its not as good as your standard trimmer?
Also it only takes festool cutters which obviously cost a fortune!!!
I will give it time but I must say at the moment my Dewalt trimmer/router wins hands down.
anyone have an opinion on this

I have one, and I love it. Admittedly, it only uses the Festool cutters, and there are very few profiles available. But what it does do, it does extremely well. It's well balanced, and smooth as silk. The cutters are expensive but last forever, I've never needed to sharpen or replace any.

There are times however when I've needed to do something the OFK500 can't do, and I've wished I'd had the MFK700 instead, purely because my OF1400 (my only other router) is a bit too big to do the job.

Like Jonny I love mine.
It's great for edging jobs cause it's so easy to control but I've found its great for those little round over / removing just the edges kinda jobs.
I even made a little jig for mine that holds it cutter side up like a router table. When I'm making base blocks or something like that I can just stand there and take edges off with ease.
The quick adjust collar is one of the best features I think.

When you compare the OFK500 to your standard trimmer what is it you don't like?I've been looking at the OFK as my Makita trimmer is difficult to accurately adjust when doing fine work.  Any comments would be appreciated.  Perhaps the MFK 700 would be a better option?

I caved in an got the OFK500 after using a Bosch GFK600 for a few years and trying out the small Makita and a Virutex. The OFK500 is the best out of the lot and I really enjoy using it.  Silent, stable, great depth adjustment and good dust collection.

I didn't go for the MFK/OFK 700 as I have the OF1010 so I prefer to have the OFK500 as a dedicated edge router with "no frills".
No regrets. Bits are expensive but they last a really long time. Haven't even changed out the first one yet!
