I am getting ready to order a metric set myself.  You pay for good steel.

Correction, I just ordered a metric set from Bob Marino.

Oliver...you're a menace. I only own 2 of these but they are so sweet. Substantially better than anything else out there and they consistently cut to the same diameter. Some others not so much, I don't know if it's heat distortion or chip load but the hole diameter does vary with the other options especially as the diameter increases. It must be the Randall effect... [cool]

[member=44099]Cheese[/member] it ain't me...
They say Swiss on the side, and everything I have that is Swiss is costly but good quality including the 2 lamello jobs.

Hi!

[member=44099]Cheese[/member] Randall-effect  [eek] [eek]  [scared] [scared]  [eek] [eek] lol!  [big grin] But yeah, there lies some truth in it. Good stuff attracts other good stuff... :)

I have a set of the Hawera forstner drill bits which really aren't bad, but when I tried the Zobo's last Saturday I was sold to them immediately. They play in a league of their own. I was most impressed by the oh so clean cut even when driving them into the edge of a wooden post at an angle. Majorly impressive, really!

Sadly I couldn't take them with me directly so I had to order, the Set arrived yesterday and I played a bit with the 15 mm bit, hence the pictures... :)

I can't wait for the first project to start where I will need them.

Kind regards,
Oliver

I think Oliver should be banned. It's member like him that spoil the forum for the rest of us, with his high quality photography of blatant gratuitous tool porn. Shame on you! [big grin]

So that's where it ended up. I'm missing one of those lol  [big grin]

Actually I don't own any of them but they look good, and are on the list to buy one day.

I agree, Oliver is an enabler!! I need an intervention!

I was so happy with my order for the metric set, I called today and had them add the imperial set as well!

Hello, my name is Cliff, and I'm a Festool junkie.........

_____________________________________________________

Rationalization:  1) Well, I already have the drill.

                            2)  Using the Imperial once and a while will make the Metric set last longer.

                            3)  I am into buying "sets".

                            4)  If I don't spend the money, my Wife will !

lol, you're all cracking me up  [big grin] [big grin] Thanks!! :)

So I should stop taking pictures like this? I mean, just if one of you was ever wondering if you needed a CXS Set of course... lol.  [eek]  [scared]  [big grin]  [big grin]  [big grin]

On a more serious note, I was wondering if I should take some pictures of a comparison between the Festool Zobo-Forstners, Hawera Forstners and what else I have laying around, there has to be a Famag somewhere and some others if I remember correctly.

Would that be of any interest?

Kind regards,
Oliver

Pictures are good only for prom value, but tell less about the basic nature of the tools.

So more interesting to me would be a comparison between brands that included numerical metrics such as accuracy of the size of the holes, and the finish of the hole or the roughness. You could still have a qualitative column(s).

Well I do have some measuring equipment and I could ask a friend to make me a couple of reference gauges in the diameters I'd need. I also have a drill stand so I could ensure equal depths and a straight path...

Give me a little time to further think about how to do this in a way to get some meaningful results and of course to get it started. :)

Kind regards,
Oliver

So, what your saying is rather than see pictures of his tool, you would rather he just tell you about it.  Hmmmmm, now I see how those 1-900 dating sites make so much money......

It is probably both.
Know how they perform in addition to pictures.

If they look great, but do not perform great then that is also worthwhile information.

[member=19746]Untidy Shop[/member] I can see now why Oliver wants to use a drill press.
I suspect my drilling with the zobos (etc) have equal lack of normality of the drill with the workpiece. Watching others drill it is always apparent that there is some leaning on direction or another.
This would seriously impact the surface finish and the size in an unpredictable way.

I agree [member=40772]Holmz[/member] , particularly when one is holding an I Pad steady with the other hand.  [smile]  [embarassed]
