Hi, I'm about to get my first Festool dust extractor.

I found an offer for what looks to be an old stock new CT 36 E for around $450. It is the older version without the T-Loc and comes with the older hose without sleeve.

In the front, just under the model name, it says "Automotive Systems".

I'm using it mainly for woodworking, so my question is if there's any difference between the regular CT 36 and this "Automotive Systems" one, and also, is there any functional or relevant difference between the older and newer versions of the dust extractors other than the T-Loc and hose? And how necessary are these? Can the hose be upgraded with a sleeve?

I know it's a lot of questions, but I'm new to this world of Festool dust extractors. Hope you can help me figure it out!

No, it was just bundled with other parts, also the hose seems to be a very narrow D27 or D22 one optimised for fine sanding.

.. is there any functional or relevant difference between the older and newer versions of the dust extractors other than the T-Loc and hose?
No.

And how necessary are these?
The biggest "upgrade" is the newer hose garage is mechanically stronger. That's it. You can attach even new systainers to the old garage just fine and when/if you break it the spare part will be the new version.

Can the hose be upgraded with a sleeve?
No. Not in the sense you meant it. *) The hoses use a standard interface on the vac side. Many other European brands use it. Your best bet is getting one of the vac accessories sets which come with the new sleeved D36 hose. You would want that irrespective if you bought a new vac or not.

Look for a new D32/27 (the hose tapers) only after that and only if the one you got the vac with is not suitable.

*) Of course you can upgrade any hose with any sleeve. But not with a "Festool sleeve" as these are not sold standalone..
