This is crafted from cocobolo (or bocote--I can't remember, and they look the same) and maple. I've used dominoes at the mitered corners for structural integrity and made them "through dominoes" for decorative purposes. The top is crowned.

That is definitely Bocote.  Not trying to be a jerk, but Cocobolo is quiiiite different.

Very nice box!  Great job with the contrasting grain, which is such a wild feature in Bocote.

david that look real nice with the wood and contrast... is that just a box or a jewerly box or a stash box?

Tim, I used a three part process:

1) General Finishes Polyacrylic Water Based Matte

2) General Finishes Gel Topcoat Wipe On Satin Urethane

3) Renaissance Micro-Crystalline Wax Polish

Cool.  Thanks.  I've never used Renaissance on anything bigger than a turned bowl, but I love the results of the finish.  Beautiful work.
