I have three Festool routers (2200,1400, 1010) as well as the Dewalt trim router and love them all.

What you need to get is the dust collection attachment.  It's not really a fair comparison otherwise.

Joe, will that fit a Festool hose without an adapter and if so which size hose? Thanks! Chris
I've managed to squeeze the 27mm hose on to the dust collector. It doesn't stay on very well, in my experience. The push fitting isn't great.

I discovered that cutting a small section of swimming pool cleaner hose worked as the perfect adapter between the Makita outflow and Festool vacuum. :)

I have both the Colt and the DeWalt 611 as well as an MFK. The fixed base height adjustment for the Colt is rubbish.

Strange that this topic was up today, I was using my colt earlier for some dados.  I was holding the base tight into the guide  I was using, and I somehow pulled the router right off the end and right into my pointer finger.  Well the router won that battle.  That is my first battle with any power equip.  Now I can justify the festool trim router instead with the guide system.  Every negative needs a positive.

I've been thinking of a way to retrofit the Colt and colt plunge base to the Festool guide rail. Haven't yet been able to use my new colt plunge base kit but I'm already looking forward to buying the 1010. Once I the hang of routing.

This is the reason I strongly recommend removing the outer ring. I jammed the hose into it like you did but sooner (than later) the hose would pop off. Not only aggravating but more importantly dangerous. One doesn't need any distractions when using a router! Removing the outer ring allows the 27mm hose to stay on real tight. If you look at the connector on the dust collector it is slightly tapered allowing the hose to stay on.

I made an offset base for my Makita trim router. It is too "tippy" with the tiny normal base.
It is dramatically better with this.
