Padauk box with Maple inlay

For the last year and half I have been steadily purchasing Festool Products. Since I got my MFT/3, RO90, ct26 and 55REQ the quality of my work have gotten much better. I used to HATE all the sanding after I re saw the raw wood due to all the dust and vibration from sanders that were marginal at best. The RO90 is a work horse for the size of boxes I build and anymore I find that the sanding part is something I look forward to. My wife of 34 years has been great about understanding the quality of Festool and that you get what you pay for. I decided it was time to make her a jewelry box for being so supportive about these tool purchases. I learn allot from these forums and hope you enjoy the pictures.

Thanks for all the nice comments, I had a question for all you folks that own many more Festools than I do. I'm going to be able to squeeze out one more Festool purchase this year. The two tools I'm trying to decide between is the RO 125 so I can be a little more efficient in my sanding I use the Ro90 now or the 500 domino. I will be doing some larger projects later this year like a dresser and such. Your input would greatly be appreciated.

the 500 Domino and the accessory systainer of Dominos.

Also what finish/treatment did you use for the jewellery box?

That may be your first piece done with Festool, but it's obviously not your first woodworking project. Your attention to detail is very impressive, as is the final result.

I wondered about the Ets 125 will it have less fatigue than the ro90? I find that sometimes my hands start to fall asleep when sanding. The finish was boiled linseed oil let dried for a month then shot with 4 coats of satin lacquer. Rubbed out after if dried 10 days. Thank you for your input

Mixing woods like paduak and maple sometimes has issues with sanding and colors bleeding.  Did you do something different when you sanded?

I never had a problem when sanding, it seemed that the ct26 did a good enough job on that, my problem was at first I tried to use a brush and apply the lacquer the Padauk would bleed into the maple. What a mess, let that dry, sanded all the way down and started over.  I shot it instead of painting it, and it turned out fine. I think the secret was very thin coats at first this wouldn't allow the Padauk to bleed because it dried pretty quickly . I learned a ton on this box and took much longer than it should but it turned out as I had hoped.

I do not own a RO90 so cannot compare. I can only encourage you to look at the ETS sanders (after the domino).  I find both the ETS125 and ETS150/3 as finish sanders, light, easy to use and relatively fatigue free, and  it certainly takes quite a while before I get any hand tingles. With the CT22 dialled down they almost float in the hand.
